Oh, Those Pesky Californicators Coming to Oregon . . . It's 1990 All Over Again!
This morning a dear friend, Dee, sent me a link to a hilarious article. She sent it yesterday, and suggested I make a Gin & Tonic while reading. I opened the link this morning and brewed another carafe of coffee!
And the comments were so entertaining!
Coming from the open, liberal minded of the lot . . . nice touch haters!
Apparently, the vitriol of HATING people moving to Oregon has found it's way . . . BACK.

"No Californians" Stickers being put on For Sale signs in the Portland Metro Market
In 1990 I Relocated from California . . . to Oregon!
My son was, then 3-years old. I had left my life in California to get away from an abusive relationship with my son's father. I lived with a relative and was going to let things cool off, then move back. That never happened.
Just before I made my mad dash exodus outta Cali, I paid $400 to register my car in early 1990. I wasn't about to spend more money in July to change license plates. Plus, I wasn't sure if I was going to remain. As a single mother . . . I was strapped for cash.
Because of the CA license plates I had eggs tossed at my car, I had people cut me off in traffic and flip me off. I was cut me off in a parking lot and the nice young man yelled "Go back to California, b(*#ch!" -- my 3-year old son was in the car at the time!
NICE TOUCH!
When I read the comments, I have to laugh. OMIGOSH, from bringing in California Pine Beetles, to Obamacare, to pollution . . . ALL illogical, circular arguments which make ABSOLUTELY no sense.
And then . . . here comes the Realtor(r) haters. They have to chime in too!
Yes, urbanmusicgal . . we're just like the Illuminati . . .
Real Estate Agents in the Portland Metro market are secretly meeting in the groves of Hillsboro to plan pricing of current market listings . . . from the beginning of our participation in the housing inflation
[I seriously don't even know what that means]
But you forgot to mention our plot of trying to take over the world!!
I mean, seriously?!?
Why stop at the Portland Metro Market??
Sorry to burst the haters' bubble . . . but, the Portland Metro area IS a good value. YES, pricing has gone up, and YES there are some areas which make me shake my head . . . especially in North Portland.
But, the ability to buy a home is based on one thing, and one thing alone . . . for all those "born right-wise" Oregonians . . .
CAN YOU QUALIFY FOR A LOAN!
If you can, then you CAN buy a nice home for what would amount to a rent payment . . . about $1,250/month is still do'able.
INTEREST RATES play more on the local housing prices then list price!
~ Can the Buyer obtain a loan?
~ Does the Buyer earn enough to borrow?
- Blame INVENTORY LEVELS
- Blame SUPPLY & DEMAND
- Blame the OVER BIDDERS
- Blame APPRAISERS
- Did you save for a down payment?
- Did you save for the closing costs?
I've been in the real estate business for over 16 years. I've seen housing prices go up, remain steady, drop, go up, drop . . .
Why weren't you buying 3 years ago? You wanted a "deal" . . . you should have listened to me when I said it was a BUYERS MARKET and it was time to buy!
