Chatham County Activities and Events - Things to Do in Chatham County, NC

It's spring, and there's plenty to do in beautiful Chatham County!  Whether you live in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, or Chatham County itself, check out some of these great events and activities.

Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival

April 17-20th

All Day Event

Come see dozens of local and not-so-local bands, along with arts, crafts, and lots of great food.  Music includes Appalachian mountain cloggers, rap, jazz, bluegrass, country, pop, electric blues, children's chorus, folk, rock and more. 

Tickets range from $22 for one day to $85 for a four-day pass.  Discounts for seniors and Chatham County residents.  Shakori Hills is in the Silk Hope area of Chatham County.  For directions, click here.

Fearrington Events and Activities -

The Fearrington Farmer's Market comes to life!  Come and get your fresh flowers, organic fruits and vegetables, homemade meals and more, every Tuesday at 4 pm.

Visit with Local Authors at McIntyre's Bookstore - 9 different authors are featured over this two week period.  Call Pete at 919-542-3030 to sign up.  

Elk Cove Wine Dinner - Eat at Fearrington Village, and enjoy wines by the Elk Cove Winery, which is in North Williamette Cove, Oregon.  The owners will be present as well, and can answer questions regarding the wine making process that has been refined over the past 21 years.  Call 542-2121 to sign up.  Sunday April 27th.

Carnivore Preservation Trust (Tigers and More!) 

Come see tigers, snow leopards, jaguars, and more.   All Tours are by reservation only.  Please call (919) 542-4684.

Twilight Tours
Available seasonally (April-October) on Saturday evenings at sunset. These special walks are during the most active part of our predators' days. Call for scheduled times and reservations. Ages 13 and up

3rd Friday - Siler City ArtWalk in Historic Downtown Siler City

Every third Friday, Siler City hosts an ArtWalk, with plenty of local artists, food, music, and more.  Friday, April 18 6:00p to 9:00p at Raleigh Street Gallery, Siler City, NC

Open Galleries/studios, pottery, paintings,fiber art, woodcrafts, sculpture, metal, jewelry, paint your own pottery, and more. 

2008 Piedmont Farm Tour

Tour small family farms, nurseries, wineries and more while enjoying the scenic beauty of the Chatham County countryside.  There are 35 farms available for touring on Saturday and Sunday, April 19th and 20th, from 1pm-6pm.  Learn more about local farming.  Bring an icebox, there's plenty of opportunities to buy farm-fresh eggs, cheese, produce and more! 

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

There's so much more than just a lake, and what a lake it is!

Astronomy Viewing Session - UNC's Morehead Planetarium is sending astronomers to answer questions and share telescopes.  Check at http://www.moreheadplanetarium.org/ before coming, clear skies are required.  Join the group at Ebenezer Beach on Sat April 12th from 6-8:30pm.  Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

C.A.S.T. (Catch a Sure Thing!) - this fishing program is for beginners aged 6-12.  Preregistration required at 919-362-0586, all equipment is provided!  Meet the ranger at the Park Office.  Sat April 12th 10-11am.

National Walk on the Wild Side - Take a guided "off-trail" nature hike and discover the wild side of Poplar Point, starting at the Poplar Point ticket booth.  For more information or to register, email robin.kalish@ncmail.net.  Sat April 12th 1 pm.

Silk Hope Winery

A small, family-owned winery, the Silk Hope winery is in the center of North Carolina's Piedmont wine region.   Open Saturdays 10-5p and Sundays noon-5p for tours and wine tastings.  Call 919-545-5696.  Click link for directions.  Bring a picnic and take advantage of the picnic area!

Horizon Cellars Winery in Siler City

Wine Tastings - Stop by and taste local Chatham County wines at Horizon Cellars Winery in Siler City.  Only $4, includes souvenir glass.  Ask about custom made labels for wine for your next special event.  Mon, Thurs and Fri 11 am - 5pm, Sat 10am-6pm, and Sunday Noon-6 pm.  Tours by request. 

Apr 26 - 27 2008 Horizon Cellars official debut of their Local Artist Label Series.  Chardonnay and Syrah are labeled with artwork from area artists.  Saturday reception with the Artists and their artwork. Sunday - bottles of wine signed by the Artist.
