Several weeks ago, on one of my frequent trips down the rabbit hole of the internet, I wound up looking at steampunk USB drives on Etsy. I have no idea how or why I got there. I certainly wasn't looking for USB drives - once an exciting innovation, they're like paper clips now and I must have a dozen in my desk drawer.
But as a reader of science fiction since I was 13, I have always loved steampunk. It's quirky, lunatic take on technology always amused and delighted me. So I was immediately overcome with possessive lust. There were dozens of different designs, each one a work of art (of a sorts), incredibly intricate and ornate, all beautifully made. I knew I was lost. I had to have one, in spite of the fact that they were expensive and frivolous - but isn't all art?
