Don't Forget to Move Your Car

By
Real Estate Agent with REMAX Affiliates

On Wednesday evening I showed a local home to a buyer, who was there for about 20 minutes with a builder friend determining if an egress window could go into the home to make an extra bedroom.  We really, truly were only in the home for about 10 minutes, then stood outside for about 10 minutes discussing their options.  After my buyer clients drove away, another Realtor friend of mine who was helping another of her friends move into the house next door to the one I was showing waved me over and we spent about an hour visiting.  During this time, I left my car parked on the street, not thinking I would have to move it because I was on the street and not in the driveway of the home I had shown.

Unfortunately, the seller of the home I was showing saw my vehicle (I have distinctive plates), and didn't return because I hadn't moved my car.  Boy, were they angry over the amount of time I was "at their house" and now they have required their listing agent be present at all showings.  I couldn't get a word in edgewise with their agent - he was steaming that I was so inconsiderate, but I had honestly never thought about moving my vehicle while visiting at another home in the neighborhood.

Lesson learned - move the car even if you plan on walking to the house next door to chat with a friend!

I can feel for the seller after all they don't want to walk into the house with your and your buyers(sometimes being told by their agent to not be there). One time my wife and I had to wait down the street until the couple looking at our house left and before we pulled into the drive way they turned around and came back, then spent another 40 minutes inside this was after 7:00PM. Even if you are talking or visiting someone next door ask yourself if it was you waiting to go home and saw a car with distinctive plates in-front of your house what would you do? I think you should at-least call the sellers and apologize. This way you all can move on and get the house sold.

Honest mistake. I wouldn't worry about it. Bet the client wouldn't have minded if he had a contract presented!

Sounds like someone is frustrated with the real estate market.  That's one bad apple in the bunch, stay away from them.  Try to let that one go and move on, stay positive.

Morning Carrie,

Does, "Get a life" sound like an appropriate response? Shows to go ya, you can't please everyone and there is no reason to dwell on this seller's problems. They are his, don't make them yours.

You had your lesson for the week and learned it well!

Have a great weekend!

Hal

Laura - I just got a call from the buyer - we're meeting later to write an offer!!!

Jeff - You are right, and that's the point of my post.  Unfortunately, because the seller is not my client I can't contact them directly and their agent won't let me offer an appology or explanation so I am kind of stuck.
