Paying Respects to Lt. Joe Glieniewicz

By
Real Estate Agent with DFW FINE PROPERTIES 0506509

My heart bleeds for Lt. Joe Glieniewicz from Fox Lake, Illinois. The killers are still at large. This story hurts because I lived in Fox Lake Hills 18 years ago. My kids went to Grant High School where today's students were on lock down. I know the area very well and the many trails in near-by Forest Preserves. 59 is a route I traveled more than you can imagine. It hurts to hear about this Officer who was gunned down because I know, the Police, Fire, and Rescue in Fox Lake and the surrounding cities, incorporated and unincorporated treat everyone fairly and they are like family.

Fox Lake is a great community. The people were always like family and they looked out for each other. You never really leave a place you love, parts of it you take with you - the memories, the roads that still look familiar, the stories about the great teachers, local police, neighbors... I keep them all in my thoughts and prayers. This is a family community where I raised my children. It's the roads where I learned how to drive my first truck and a five speed too and my children learned to drive theirs too! The road where the school buses drive down those roads that were used for the funeral procession to the cemetery, driving past the neighborhood where I lived then onto Antioch where Lt. Joe Glieniewicz now rests... all brings back flashbacks of small town community where just about everybody knows your name. Rest in peace Lt. Joe.

I am saddened, so sad and confused because September seems to be a reminder of tragedy since September 11th, 2001 and it is stories like this that leave imprints of sorrow in all our hearts. Like the falling leaves, many tears are shed. I pray for this Lieutenant's family and the safety of the men and women who are in search of those responsible for this tragedy and for the people who still live in this community. Police are not the enemy - they serve and protect. They were involved in my daughter's Girl Scouts when I was their leader. They are a fabric of the community. Regardless of what month it is, time or year, people can't live in fear from those that abuse weapons and destroy other people's lives. We can't be consumed by fear allowing the enemy to take a life and worry so many people. I pray they are caught so that the people of Illinois and Wisconsin can have peace of mind.

How much better would the world be if moral rules applied? What if everyone believed in the Ten Commandments, especially, "Thou Shall Not Kill," but then again, it all begins with obedience to parents, knowing right from wrong, stealing is not acceptable, and believing, really believing in love thy neighbor as thyself. How much smarter would kids be if their schools never went on lock down because there was never a need to do so? Could society be better if there was more respect for life and no one ever thought about taking another person's life? If people believed, really believed in do no harm, then there would be fewer hurts, less sorrows, and more respect for human life. Rest in peace Lt. Joe Glieniewicz and peace be with the community and the people in Fox Lake, the surrounding areas, the children, expecially the children and the people in Wisconsin too.

Good morning Patricia. This is just plain bad, we have reached a very low point in how the police are respected in this country.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful post!

Thank you Joe... the time to stop the hurt is now. I still have family and friends in this area and my heart aches for them as it does for other tragedies throughout this nation.

Patricia, spent a lot of time in Fox Lake in my younger years and was surprised to hear about this very sad incident. Nice tribute to Joe!

We hear this here almost eveery night on the news...and the three people they had hoped could shed some light on the case at this stage, cannot.  With all the media attention we are hopeful that the killer will be brought to justice soon.

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint - I don't think anyone is exempt from this type of miserable tragedy that leaves one's head shaking, hands trembling, the wide-eyed disbelief... it is the story that is being told in too many places, unexpected places and it really hurts. The bleeding has to stop.

Wayne Martin - as a kid, my father stored his boat in the Fox Lake Marina. Perhaps we were kids and our paths crossed then - we'll never know. I never dreamt I'd end up living there in Fox Lake Hills, raising kids, sending my kids, my precious kids to Grant High School, buying birthday cakes every year from the Fox Lake Bakery, near that rail road station, playing with my kids at the park by the Fox Lake Police Station, visiting the Police Station with Girl Scout Troops to talk about safety... Until this tragic moment, those happy days were fondly remembered. Now, the soil has been stained by blood and the realization that those to blame have not been caught is very worrisome.

Sally K. & David L. Hanson - As soon as I got word I immediately thought about the people, my family from IL and WI, friends like you and David. This conduct has got to stop! Heinous crimes is not something I associate with in Northern, IL or WI. The fundamental principles of moral decay are never ending and one never knows where or when it will occur next. When a crime of this magnitude occurs we all feel the punishment of suffering and it just isn't fair.

Roger D. Mucci - when will it end? Those words echo from coast to coast. Yes those words flow through the river of our veins and we cannot see the purpose or understand why it continues to touch us in haunting ways that are totally unacceptable. The madness has to stop!

Sharon Tara - as parents, mothers, grandparents - we need to know our children are protected. Violence can't be tolerated. I think about my childhood a time when bans were in place at the Movie Theater, movies were rated, and even on the Radio. Video games did not exist and children played with toys or climbed trees. The outdoors was a safe place to be. Where children went to church and learned moral values both in church and at school. The only threat to kids was bad weather. It seems as if suffering is becoming a way of life. No child should have to be locked down, hunkered down as if they were criminals, prisoners while the bad guys go free to escape. We need better ways for police protection to us, including ways to protect themselves and isn't that a crying shame.

Don't forget the threat to our children online....OMG that is frightening!

Roy Kelley - the ability to process crimes like this is very disturbing. Why does this behavior continue and subject every human being to pain, suffering, and emotional loss? Why can't people enjoy a good book and not act out these crimes? In some ways I long for the return of the Lone Ranger, Superman, Rin-Tin-Tin, and Batman too. The cultivation of civilization must be taught to children so that they don't grow up into monsters.

Brian England - How do you stop the bleeding? These unconscionable acts leave imprints on every man and woman's soul. I watched on T.V. how the people stood helpless along the road during the funeral procession and I know if I still lived there, I'd be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them because that's what community does - they support one another. Human life has to be cherished. What are the motives that target unsuspected people to be shot down, in the line of duty, especially local police who sacrifice their lives to protect others? We need a thorough analysis and plan in place to stop these horrible, never ending crimes.

I know the layout of the land very well. On one hand, I'm glad I'm not still living in Fox Lake Hills off of 59; on the other hand, I still feel as though I never left. I still have family living in these parts of the woods and I'm very concerned for their safety too. Be safe my friend.
