Hollywood Comes to Chester County

Living within an hours drive of Hollywood, and growing up in Chester County, PA, I know the 2 places could not be any more different. Every once in a while, though, Hollywood visits Chesco - I remember being in school when M Nigh Shyamalan's "Signs" was filmed locally. I'm not a huge Shyamalan fan, Mallrats 2 Exton so that one wasn't too exciting. When it comes to dumb humor, witty banter, and intelligent vulgarity, though (coupled with regular hockey references), SIGN ME UP.

Hollywood is once again coming to Chester County, as Kevin Smith has announced that the movie Mallrats 2 will be filmed at the Exton Square Mall in Exton, PA. This time around I'm pretty excited, even though I don't live in the area anymore. Kevin Smith has been a part of some of my all time favorite films, including 'Good Will Hunting', the 'Clerks' franchise, 'Dogma', and the original 'Mallrats' (shot in Minnesota, far from anywhere I've called home).

While many people who aren't a fan of his cult hits may not recognize him by name, nearly everyone will be familiar with Kevin Smith's work & his usual cast, which includes Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Jason Lee. One thing I'll be interested in is how Smith will include an homage to the game of hockey in his new film - I'm sure that the chosen filming location is in no small accident a 10 minute drive to the nearby Powerplay Ice Rink. I've spent some time in the Exton Square Mall, but far more time inside the Powerplay rinks, playing in leagues there for about 5 years. I would be really happy to see the rink make an appearance in the film.

Any time a film is produced locally, there is some inconvenience to locals, and usually an economic boost to the local communities with all of the extra bodies in the area. Hopefully the filming will be a win-win for the Exton area, the film crew, and when the movie is finished, viewers everywhere. If Mallrats 2 is anywhere near as good as the original, I'll be very much looking forward to checking it out, and spotting some familiar places while watching.

John Meussner Nice local post for Pa . Exton is a hike for me but always nice to see movies filmed here . Philly is a big place for movie making .Of course nothing like California . The big news is the Pope is coming and the whole city will be shut down .It will even effect Real Estate as the court house is closing for a week so we will not be able to get tax pay offs and titles will be slowed down

I saw that Hannah Williams . Religious beliefs aside, it's a shame that literally MILLIONS of people will be inconvenienced because of a visit. I hate it when the POTUS comes to visit out here, it's nothing but more traffic!

Well I grew up in that area as well, as I think you know, and know exactly where the Exton Mall is (and boy, how that whole Chester County area has grown in the years I've been away but have been visiting). Hadn't heard about the Pope's visit - sounds like a real pain for you, Hannah Williams

It's grown A LOT. When I first moved to Chesco it was nothing but farm. Now it's a great deal commercial & residential even close to the Maryland line - the more populated West Chester/Exton area is tough to tell apart from the areas closer to the city anymore.

He's done a lot of good work - fans of the films know him as "Silent Bob", and he's got such a generic name that it's easy to forget him. I love most of his movies, though.

Jeff Dowler CRS blog coming soon .He is staying on the Main Line so people living there because of security will be limited where they can go.He also will be visiting the prison down the road from my community so I most likely will be unable to leave the community . Yes it will be a real pain and he will be going down the Parkway City will be closed . People living in Center City can not leave the city or park cars .

John, Thanks for the heads up about the filming in the Exton Mall. I am not familiar with Kevin Smith's work but it is probably good for the local economy even though it is inconvenient for locals when there are detours on the overly congested roads.

As Hannah Williams mentioned the Pope and week prior the World Meeting of Families will also bring chaos to the area. The National Guard is also going to be on hand here in Delaware County along the train lines, etc. that go into the city. We will probably stay home or head out of town to watch it all on TV...or not.
