Since 1983, the La Frontera Tucson International Mariachi Conference has grown into one of the leading events of its kind worldwide. A fixture in the cultural event calendar of Tucson, the conference features performances by some of the style's top entertainers worldwide. This year's conference will bring 7,500 visitors to the area April 22-26 to celebrate and enhance the diversity of culture that makes Tucson special.
Besides the entertainment, the conference revolves around education--an important part, perhaps the most important reason for the gathering. Each year over 1,000 students have the opportunity to learn from the masters of baile folklorico and mariachi then participate in a showcase concert of their emerging talent.
