Best Interests
The provision in the Code of Ethics dealing with “best interests” is as follows:
Best interests
- A registrant shall promote and protect the best interests of the registrant’s clients. O. Reg. 580/05, s. 4.
The specific positive duty is to “promote” and “protect”. Note, this ONLY applies to Clients. It will not be found elsewhere dealing with customers somewhere.
This is probably the most profound difference between clients and customers, at least, in the legislation.
