What to Do Before Your Home Stager Comes Over…

You know how you always clean up before your housekeeper comes House- wait to talk to me firstover?  You know you do!

But if you have a Home Stager coming over to provide a consultation what do you do?  Do you leave everything as is?  Do you quickly try to paint the walls?

Remember, we’re there to show you what you can do to make your home “show ready”  using what you already have.  So here are some tips that will help us help you!

What should you do to get the most out of the time you’re spending with your home stager?

1.Do NOT paint! (yet)

Chances are your home stager will recommend painting some if not all of your rooms.  But it is better to wait because we can suggest colors that will work with what you have.  Whatever you do, if someone recommends painting everything white, just smile, say “thank you” and walk away.

2.If you have very active pets or young children, arrange to have them elsewhere or under the care of someone else.

Don’t get me wrong, stagers love pets and children but we want you to be able to focus on what we have to say.

3. It’s ok to clean your home.

Stagers really don’t like telling someone to clean this area or that, but on the other hand, that’s what you’re paying us for.  So.. go ahead and clean before we come out.  We won’t mind.

4. Do not give away/donate/store your furniture… yet.

We want to see what you have that will enhance the space.  It saves you money! One of my clients was talked into giving away all of her furniture except what was in her master bedroom. To bring in chairs, tables, etc would have been expensive for her.

5. Do go ahead and throw away things that need to be tossed.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is the seller who has so much everywhere it becomes impossible for us show you where you might move something for maximum effect.

Some clients want to know why we haven’t “moved furniture around” like they see in the cable shows.  Well, the answer is because there’s nowhere to move it!

Please don't say a word6. Have a pen and notepad available for notes.

Yes, just like in school, it helps to take notes.

7. If you want a friend/relative around for support, ask them if they would mind observing only.

You’re going to be paying for this consultation so we want you to get your money’s worth.  While your friend may be a staging expert because they’ve seen every episode of a staging show on cable tv, humor us and let us tell you what we would suggest first.

Just like your real estate agent, we want to help you get your home sold and do it as painlessly as possible.

A home staging consultation can help you do just that!
