MarketWatch 2007 and the tearing down of the old Fort Myers Civic Center

Tomorrow at 5:00 pm Fort Myers will demolish the old Exhibition Hall along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River. Elvis grooved and President Ford greeted and shook hands in this historic place. But this could be the beginning of a new landmark moment in the defining of downtown. It craves attention and a destination and given which plan is followed this could set the Fort Myers Downtown or River District up for success.

Tomorrow also is the date of the annual MarketWatch conference across the street in the Harborside Convention Center. I think another landmark moment as this will be the first time since Denny Grimes began speaking at MarketWatch that the market has not been moving up. Just like the demolition of the Exhibition Hall, our market needs a little rebuilding. Unfortunately in order to build up sometimes it requires tearing down. The Exhibition Hall had become unsafe and dangerous just like the skyrocketing apprecation and sales levels our real estate market experienced. For the health of our entire market area that stretches from Bonita Springs to Fort Myers and Cape Coral we can only see the current market demolition as paving way for a brighter tomorrow.
