Is Your Blog Attracting Repeat Visits?

Question MarkIs your blog receiving repeat visits?  Several people in the real estate industry are starting to embrace the idea of blogging.  If you have just decided to start blogging, you maybe wondering how you are going to get people coming back and staying interested.

What does it take?  Well fresh content is the first thing that comes to mind.  The more popular blogs seem to have at least one new article each week.  Some write more, some less but most are updating and contributing on a regular basis.

And what are some of the other properties that draw people in?  Variety, a mixture of ideas and topics usually helps.  Mix that with a bit of visual content, something that's informative, newsworthy and on people's minds.  Sometimes bringing in humor to a post or making a series of posts on a particular topic that you have a wealth of information to share.  Another big hit is blogging about something controversial that will attract a lot of commentary.  I'm not suggesting something offensive, yet if you bring up an idea like "fraud" or "The Internet is Replacing Realtors" you will usually get people to add a comment  to your post.

What are the popular blogs doing?  Look at other people's blogs and see what different ideas they use to keep their blogs fresh and alive.  Remember that a blog is similar to an article in a magazine or newspaper, your's is just online.  Write about your experiences, write about what you have learned, just remember to keep it real.

Similar to Subscriptions here on Active Rain, I follow the number of feed readers on my blogs closely. If someone takes the time to read my headlines daily or weekly through an RSS feed I think I've gained a regular reader.

I have to consult with my blogging partner and see if she will enlighten me a little more here.  But good advice dear.

Hi Cynthia,

I must confess, I don't do all the right things with my blog, no RSS feeds, no backlinks, no feedreaders. I know all about these things, but I barely get the time to blog, never mind set up everything.

Of course you are right though, now more than ever, we all need to get out there or get lost in the shuffle.
