I love how-to's.

Few things brighten my day more than discovering that my several step processes... the ones which I've performed countless times...

could be reduced to fewer steps.

Here's one of the quickest "How-To's" I can teach you.

Yes... many will say, "I already know how to do that" ... but this may be new news to some of you.

For those who ask "how do you come up with all those blogging topics?" My short answer is this, "I have them sent to me."

How, exactly?

Through Google Alerts.

Let me walk you through the steps.

"How to set up an automatic news retrieval system"

google alerts
  • Type in your search term: for instance, "new homes" arizona
alert
  • Choose your sources- for many items I want news reports. For opinions select "blogs", for general web site searches select "web" ... comprehensive does a thorough search of many types of online sources.
  • Select how often you want the news to be delivered (once a day, as it happens or once a week). I prefer the "once a day" option. I receive a single email with links to matching items.
  • Type in your preferred email address. (They promise to be nice and not sell your email address.)
  • Select "create alert"
create alert

There you have it!

Now fresh news related to new homes in Arizona will be delivered automatically via email.

When new information (matching your search terms) hits the web, chances are you'll hear about it.

It's an easy way to stay current within your market niche.

Happy blogging!

Frank- you're welcome!

Bo- I also have news readers but these alerts are persistent... always keeping up with a specific search term. I may not receive any news in a week or two and then something timely will reach me.

Chuck- always happy to help another Chuck.

Jean- hope you love it!

Chuck, I have my name in google alerts, my websites, and quite a few others. It's a great resource 'cause it lets me know how quick my projects or posts are googled. Lots of fun.

I love it, simple, easy & effective.  I've heard time & again about Google Alerts, but hadn't taken the time to investigate it.  Thank you!

Konnie- it's to receive new information about topics that are important to you. For instance, I created automated searches with the names of the major builders in my area. Now, when there is major news about any of them I know. I've been alerted to auctions they're holding- notices of stock results, etc.

Good Use Teri- it helps demonstrate the effectiveness of your search engine optimization methods. I did a search on my name and quickly discovered how many other people there are with my name that were making news. :-)

Kent- you can also do this with yahoo... they both yield good results.

Doreen- You noticed the picture! I was wondering if anyone would catch on.

CHUCK: Thank you for your info. No, I didn't know anything about Google Alert. You even explained easily enough for a blonde to understand.  Yes, I did notice your book. I watched a lot of detective shows.

TERI E: I appreciate your tidbit too! You are very smart !

Dottie- I've been waiting to use that picture for over a month now... finally found a way to sneak it in a post.

Doreen- I should have known you'd have spotted it immediately. :-)

Windy- Now you can let google do some of your detective work... and... you're in good company- I've been learning tips awesome from Teri for quite a few months now.
