It never ceases to amaze me. I show a home costing hundreds of thousands of dollars and there is dirty laundry laying around, or it smells like a litter box ,or the front door needs to be painted. The way you live in your home and the way your prepare it for sale are two entirely different things. Do you see a car dealer selling dirty cars? Of course not! They are washed and waxed and have a new car smell even if they aren't new. So why the heck would you not spend a few hours, days, or weeks prepping your home for sale? I think the bottom line is many agents are afraid to tell owners what they need to do sell their homes. If your home smells like a litter box I am going to tell you. If it needs work I will let you know the most cost effective items to address. It impacts my ability to do my job and more importantly it certainly is going to impact the price you obtain for your home. I feel so strongly that a home needs to be properly prepped, that until the end of May I am offering a free home staging consultation and a free cleaning service for all new listings.
