Apple Picking in the Hudson Valley

Fall is APPLE Picking Season in the Hudson Valley

Fall is a favorite time of year for many. I love the fresh air, warm days and cool nights. I love that the leaves start to change color and put on a show that ONLY mother nature could provide us. What I don't like is that it ends too quickly and then we have winter, but I digress.

Apple Picking in the Hudson Valley

What I really love is going apple picking. I'm frequently asked why I go with my husband each year as our two daughters are grown and don't live nearby.  Friends ask if we are bringing family or friends that visit and want to go. Well, we do that, but when there isn't anyone to "bring"  for an excuse we just go ourselves. I LOVE to go apple picking. So much so, this year we went two days in a row. Two farms, two orchards and tons and tons of apples. Why wouldn't I want to stroll in the orchards on a beautiful sunny afternoon? This is one of my favorite things to do in the Hudson Valley. No kids to chase and even though I do lose my husband in the orchards once in a while, it is a stress free afternoon. Not only do we pick apples, but my camera gets a great workout and I get to bring home some wonderful photos to share and apples to savor.

If you are lucky enough to be near Newburgh NY, you may find these two farms a great place to visit. Today my husband announced we forgot to check out this one. I think we may be going again tomorrow. This time we will have visitors as our nephew will be in town.

Good morning Janis Borgueta,

OMG..how I remember picking apples in the fall when I grew up in upstate N.Y. Mom would make candied apples to give out for trick or treaters at Halloween!!

It is the best Roger D. Mucci  have fun, and then come home and bake the apples. Tastes just like apple pie without the extra carbs.

Janis Borgueta Next to fermenting wine in a clod cellar, I think the smell of stored apples in the cold cellar are my next choice. Reminds me of my youth in Upstate NY. Thanks!

It's hard for me to get in to the Fall mindset when we're still hitting triple digit temperatures.

I don't think I've experienced those cold apple cellars Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI I do agree that being in the vineyards may be more my style, but the apple orchards are prettier.

Sybil Campbell yes, a friend made a pie for us last week. We usually bake the apples with cinnamon and a drop of butter and just a pinch of brown sugar. MUCH better for the diet and wallet. If I eat too much apple pie, then I'll need to go shopping for some new clothes.

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert the evenings and early morning make it very apparent that the warm weather will soon be history. I am LOVING it!

We have two orchards within a couple of miles of us Janis.  We have already been a couple of times, once for peaches when they were ready, the other for apples last weekend. We'll go again for sure.

Make it a great weekend.
