Greenville Street Park in Newnan Georgia opened with a free Jazz Concert

Greenville Street Park in beautiful downtown Newnan Georgia celebrated its official grand opening on Friday night, April 18 2008.

The park was opened in grand style with a free public jazz concert in the new outdoor amphitheater. The weather was perfect, and the music was light and smooth. The laid back crowd relaxed and enjoyed the ambiance of the new facility combined with the sweet strains of music.

The concert was held in conjunction with the 2008 Spring Art Walk on the courthouse square, and was followed on Saturday April 20 with the Spring tour of homes.

The event was sponsored by MainStreet Newnan, a trade association of downtown merchants.

If you haven't been to downtown Newnan lately, do pay a visit. It is alive and vibrant, with lots of unique shops and restaurants that are sure to offer something of interest to everyone.

And it is a wonderful walking area, with excellent traffic control and protected crosswalks. And don't forget your camera. There are many historic buildings and homes in the area, and the whole town is a photographer's delight.

We have a park here in Columbia that has many free out door concerts in the Summer time. It's a great way to spend a Friday evening.

Yes, it's great! As mentioned, this was the first in Newnan at the new park which is really set up for outdoor shows. It's not gigantic, but I'll bet 4 or 5 thousand could squeeze in! And I like free ... well except for those thousands of dollars of property tax!

This is truly a great park. My son plays guitar at Musicology in Newnan, and the sponsor events at this park periodically. It's really cool to sit in the afternoon and enjoy music and dinner in the outdoors. Of course, my wife adds plenty of flair by setting up with table linens, a flower center piece, wine with a cheese board etc. Neither of us are folks that do things half way.
