Many ActiveRain members have signed up for the Mixpo Video, so I wanted to share a tutorial on using Mixpo for your ActiveRain Blogs.  There will be a series of tutorials to follow, and some by other members I'm sure, but this will be a great start to get you up and running with Mixpo Video.

If you have never created, edited, or uploaded video onto the internet or into your Blog posts, this will be a great place for you to start.

If you haven't signed up, or just want to know more about Mixpo - CLICK HERE!

So You Just Shot Your Video - Now What Do You Do With It?

Once you have recorded some RAW video either with a Flip Video Camera, a digital camera, a movie camera or just with your cell phone, all you need to do is get it transferred to your computer desktop, or into a folder somewhere on your computer. Usually it's just drag and drop, or copy from an SD card, or hook up a cable and transfer.  Mixpo works with most video formats. .AVI, .MOV, .WMF, etc. which is standard on most Digital Video Cameras and Recorders.

Accessing Your Mixpo Account and Uploading Video

  1. Go to Mixpo.com and use the "Sign in" button at the top right corner of the home page. Or you can just Click Here to go straight to the sign in page if you're currently subscribed.
  2. Enter your email address, and the password that you were notified with, then click the "Sign In" Button.
  3. For the rest of this tutorial post, I'll try and use images and text to make it easier.

When this next screen appears,
there will be (3) three tabs at the top right side of the page.  We're going to focus on the second or #2 tab today.  This is where you'll need to start to upload your video to Mixpo.

On the next screen, you will be given the option to create a new project, or use a previously made template. Click on the "Select" button to start your video upload, and begin the editing/production process.

Now you are ready to fly through the process.  We will cover the 5 tabs below, in a Basic Overview on this post.  First is the "Description Tab" on the Mixpo Console.  View the screen shot below, it's pretty self explanatory.  Just title your Video post, add your tags or keywords, and give your video a "Description!"  Just like any Blog post, these are important areas to review when considering your content and keyword selection.  SEO isn't everything...but it's almost!!  LOL!~

Next, we'll Click on the tab to the right of description, the "Visuals Tab!" This is where you can upload your video, your photos, and your graphic images.  You can also select from the Mixpo Library which has over 1150 Professional High Quality Videos and Photos.  These are included in your subscription for you to use freely. This is also where you would delete any unwanted videos if needed.  Just use the "Delete an Image or Video" option next to the red X!  (You can preview video's and photos from the Mixpo Library before selecting them.  There are some great animated backgrounds and video clips available.) I highly recommend saving your work at this point!  Save it in draft mode until ready to publish.

Now let's review the "Narrations" Tab.  This area allows you to create narrations and voice overs.  You will need a mic hooked up to your computer to use this feature.  This is good for video that has horrible sound or background noise that you want to cover with a narration or voice overlay.

Adding Sounds, Music, Background FX and Special Effects: Click on the "Sounds" Tab and start bringing your video to life.  You can use the Mixpo sound files and music, or you can upload your own.  Importing is FAST and simple.  Just click on the "Add Stock Audio" to choose from hundreds in the Library, or select "Import Audio" to Upload your own.  (Be sure to NOT USE COPYRIGHT PROTECTED SONGS or sound bits ie: Elton John, Elvis Presley etc.)

Here's a screen shot of the Mixpo Sound Console Library.  Each of these can be customized: volume, length etc.

Adding Overlays and Custom Text, Links, Colors and Fonts: This is where the real power of Mixpo is revealed.  Click on "Add Overlay", and you'll get a selection of multiple text type overlays.  These can be placed anywhere through-out your video.  The Text, Colors, Bursts, Ovals, Click Throughs, and Lead Captures can be linked to any page on the internet, or linked back to any email address.  This is one of the most unique tools available.  The power of Mixpo Video editing and production is right here.

Here are some samples below of what others have done with Mixpo, both in and out of the Real Estate Industry.  This just gives you some ideas on how to create some quality VideoAds for you and your company.  I will put 2 links, the first one will be the link to Mixpo where the video is hosted, and the other to their site where the final Video Production is being displayed. Some of these are using Ad-Rotation which we'll get into on a later post! :-)

LI READ REAL ESTATE VIDEO - NOW SEE HER WEBSITE

QUEEN ANNE HIGH SCHOOL CONDOMINIUMS VIDEO - NOW SEE THEIR SITE

R.O.A.M DOCUMENTARY VIDEO - NOW SEE THEIR WEBSITE

In the next Mixpo tutorial,  we'll cover:
Syndicating your Video, Embedding Code into a Post, Website etc., Completing your Settings and adding your Logo, Managing your Library, Details of the Mixpo Dashboard, Using Ad Rotation, Creating a "Video Template" to save time, Customizing your iContact info on Video Options, and Mastering Your Video, Audio, Voice Over, Links, and the Effects Timeline.

If it were to "Rain" much more, could we expect flooding?  :-))

Dale - Video is the next stage in Real Estate advertising and Business promotion.  Though it is just another tool, it is a very powerful one.

Katerina - I loved the one you did of your "Assistant", that was very cute!!  The voice over feature is a great tool and definitely adds to your videos.  Looking forward to seeing what you've created.  I know this is all familiar to you, but many others who signed up are still learning the process, so I promised them I'd do this post.

The next one is coming soon, I promise, thanks!  :-)

Pam - maybe a little too thorough?!? LOL!!!  I really like the video tutorials a little better.  It all fits on one screen, no scrolling, I'm just not thrilled about hearing my own voice. (haha) I think everyone goes through that though.

Brian - KaBOOM!!!  Thanks Buddy!  :-)  Hey, I did put some samples at the bottom of this post.  Some are Real Estate Industry related, and the others are to show how other Industries are using Video to promote and advertise their business and products.  I thought that they would create a good baseline or standard of what many are trying to acheive with video.  This stuff isn't going away, that's for sure!  :-))

Check out the sample Videos above, the first link is their Mixpo Video Console.  The Second link next to it shows what that video looks like embedded on their website.  Just some ideas and samples...   :-)

Great tutorial, Brad. Have to consider whether it makes sense. Have not done the due diligence yet, nor and taken a look at the value added for the service, but $29/mo seems pricey to me. Need to know more I think.

Jeff -that makes sense, give me a call and I can go over the pricing and what that equates to in value.

There are many Video hosting sites out there, some offer editing (not too many) mostly hosting.  There are programs you can buy for editing.  Some free, some not!   Just so you know, we are not trying to be the retail center for Video editing, and selling products.

We have determined some great value in Mixpo, especially for the price.  All we are trying to do is bring a heightened awareness to how video is and will impact the industry.  We wanted to make some simple yet powerful online tools available to the members who may want or need them.

It's a no pressure kinda thing, it's just there and available if you need.  We have had quite a few sign up already, I hope you'll call so I can explain why I think others are jumping in!  Thanks Jeff.  707.718.6773!

Bradly - thanks my friend, just checked it out and it had one of those %20 in the link.  I have no idea how that got there, but I have corrected it.  It's nice to know someone is actually clicking on those links and watching some of the incredible videos that were put together using the Mixpo console.

It's also nice knowing I got someone like you watching my back! Thanks Brad!!  :-))))  Let me know if you have any questions about why we chose mixpo and how it can help your business.  It has Some very unique and powerful tools.  :-))

Any time Brad. It was just a space, %20 is just how html translates a space into code.

I am still amazed at the concept of embedding a link into a video! Watching a couple of those videos, especially Li Read's, has given me some great ideas to recommend to some clients.

I am most definately going to be checking out more on Expo and look forward to you future posts on the subject.

Brad, thanks for this post. I actually read it yesterday, played with Mixpo and forgot to come and comment. I see by the lack of comments many are afraid to jump in, but I do expect it to grow over the next 6 months, so you might need to re-submit it again.

Why not start a Mixpo group ? Then we can find all the tutorials easily and as people jump aboard we can send them there ?  If not I feel you and those that use it will be doing a lot of one on one teaching.

I think more and more, the AR community is discovering the power of Video as evidenced by your Interview with the Chief Of Police in Saline.  Your Google success story really says it all.  Nice Job.

Creating an awareness of video to the members here is my primary goal, NOT SELLING MIXPO!  But I will say that after hours of extensive research, (and I do mean hours...LOL!~), I have found that the tools available on Mixpo are most worthy of the fee being charged.  As people begin to see and understand the power in Video and SEO, they will come, even if kicking and screaming!!

We have a HELP/FAQ where most of these types of posts will end up.  It's at the bottom of every AR page, but maybe a Mixpo "Group" would be justified.  :-)

Bo - Mixpo is an online video editing, hosting, producing and publishing tool that AR has made available to members.  I just did a post about some of the key features of Mixpo, and how it differs from other Video hosting sites.  Check out my most recent post when you get a chance.  There is a fee, but it is nominal for the value and return you will get by using it.  Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help you any way I can. Thanks Bo.  :-)

Ian - glad you enjoyed this post, if you're using the new AR Video with Mixpo, it'll be a huge benefit to your Blog and your Flip will work nicely.  Let me know if you have any questions. :-)

1:48pm • #33

Ian - I see you're back with that question.. lol~  Mixpo and Wellcomemat are both great products. They can both be incorporated into your AR Blog and others too.

The difference is that Mixpo is an ActiveRain product that can only be accessed by our members, it's not for the general public to use.  We are working on fully integrating Mixpo into ActiveRain.  There is a small fee, but there are some tools and editing advantages that no other hosting service offers or can provide right now.

If you really want to get some details about Mixpo, feel free to call or email me and I'll send you a couple write-ups I have done.  You know how to find and reach me.. I hope this helps a bit.  :-)

Now that I've shot the video and I've learned that video.activerain.com is not online yet I'm off to get started with mixpo.

UPDATE:  I'm in Mixpo and am not impressed with their templates.  Although Youtube is amateurish I feel like I have to go back to my marketing days and pull in a team to help me creat the "finished product".  Otherwise I'll look like a million other real estate agents that don't have a clue how to deliver a professionally finished product.

Real estate is about one's image.  This is going to take time and money to get it right and 1st impressions mean everything.

Tracy - not sure which templates you are referring to on Mixpo, are you talking about the player? Or do you mean the 1500 background images and video templates?  Would love to help, just need more specifics.  You won't need a team or a pro, it's setup for those who have never done video editing or produced ads before.

A professional "finished product" is very easy to create, as long as you have good video, Mixpo is just the player and an editing console.  Here to help if you need it, just let me know.  :-)

Brad,

Hope you still get my comment. Does Mixpo support MPEG-4? I have FIsher that writes on a memory card, and in MPEG-4. What would you suggest?

Thank you,

2:24pm • #44

Jon - AR Video/Mixpo does work with MPEG-4, I just uploaded a video last night and it seems to be working ok. Video as you may know is a sensative and time consuming process.  The idea behind AR Video and Mixpo is to minimize that process and remove the sensative matters o converstion etc.  It works with .mov, .avi, .wmf, MPEG4, and others.  Hope this helps. :-)

Brad, this is fast and informative. Thanks. If I may, my grandson is sitting with flash and is adamant with me that I even think of doing something different.

In you opinion, is it just that Flash is a more difficult program, which maybe can do more, than Mixpo, but is more time consuming, and, basically, too much hassle, or there is a more serious difference.

Let me rephrase. If you have a grandson, who can work with Flash, would you still switch to Mixpo? If you do not have 16 yo grandchildren, just try to imagine having one (LOL)

4:15pm • #46

Jon - I'll be honest, if you have access to someone who can help you with Flash and other forms of media marketing and advertising, I would go for it.  Many use other platforms for editing and creating visually attractive media for the net and their Blogs.  AR Video is a simpler yet powerful platform that has some value and benefits you won't find on other platforms. It is NOT Adobe, Pinnacle, Movie Maker or iMovie if that's what you're looking for.  Flash is even more difficult and I'd assume 98% of the members here wouldn't know where to begin using and creating Flash.  If they did, they wouldn't be selling Real Estate.  :-)

Brad, I'm just a month into AR and I have to first say I enjoy your posts and knowledge!  Thanks!

I do most of my video editing/publishing in Adobe Premiere and Visual Communicator.  I was using the Vimeo player until I got the boot from them this morning!  So, I'm looking for another alternative...besides YouTube.  I was wondering...if I edited and published my shows in my own software (save as AVI or SWF) then uploaded it to Mixpo just to create a player, would this work without degrading the quality?  I do have an account with a streaming host server, but always looking for a free hosting company.  Do I understand that mixpo hosts the video you create in it?  Is it streaming versus progressive? Thanks Brad!

3:25pm • #48

Terri - Mixpo ActiveRain Video would create an HD player. You could upload to the server and add additional editing capabilies with the AR Video tools if you wish.  The ability to add links and embed "Calls To Action" or you can just use the player.  What you change on AR Video in the editing mode auto-populates each location you have the video placed and in real time.  The quality will not be lost as it is in many of the other players.

The full integration is not completed on AR just yet, we are almost there.  Let me know if you want us to set you up.  You can call me, or shoot me an email if you have any additional questions or needs, I'd be happy to help you out any way I can.  :-)

Jon - as long as your final product even after editing is in a proper file format, you could use Mixpo/AR Video as your host and player. You could even add more to it using the tools in Mixpo if you'd like. The common formats I am currently using are .mov  .wmf  .wmv   .avi   .mpep4, and they seem to all work fine.
