My best advice for new agents by Scott Fogleman of the Witt Fogleman Team

I have come to accept I am no longer a "new" agent having been a REALTOR since Jan 2010 and a Broker for almost 2 years. In my short time, I fell I have learned a great deal and I have lots more to learn. Which is what I love about being a REALTOR.

I started with Scott and Bond where I didnt get any support. They didnt advice me, they didnt help me. In fact, when I signed my first listing agreement my broker said "I know them (the client), why didnt they sign with me?"

I teach classs and often times there are new agents in the class. One of the classes I teach is a self created class called KW 102 as an introduction to Keller Williams. In this class I offer some beginner advice on things to do and things not to do as a new agent.

So what is the one thing I think all new agents need to know? You have one job, one focus. Transactions!

During hours when you can talk to people, dont spend time of your websites or askig questions. Get people talkingout there and talk to people.

How do I find people to talk to you ask?

Start with the people in your phone, then call your family and friends, use that crazy old book cal the phone book. Go door to door, talk to people in stores (anyone -exspecially customers). Do you get it, talk to anyone and everyone until you have sales flowing.

Excellent advice. Sometimes we procrastinate, get on websites, Facebook, ActiveRain, and postpone face to face conversations with those who can actually give us business. Well done.

Talking to people.....good old networking, it works every time.  Barbara Todaro wrote a great post on it the other day.  She networks at the gym.

Good morning, Scott Fogleman "networking" is a "back to basics" skill that will NEVER grow old.... when real estate sales began, when God was a child, people did it via networking and a handshake.... we'll forget about the handshake today and make sure we have an iron clad agreement, but it can all start by networking.

Networking between Bedford and Smith Mountain Lake, Va. sounds like a good idea.   So how soon can we make that happen ?

Scott, sometimes I think it was lucky to have gotten into the business before we had the techno-distractions that agents have today.  It was about learning our craft, and then getting in front of people to practice it.  No blogging, no computer games, not lead buying.  No web to surf!  Just people and houses to see!
