In order to earn a paycheck, a local "journalist" who writes some kind of "economic advice" column or blog or whatever, was featured by one of our local fish wrappers. It was another attempt to convince the public that they really don't need to use a real estate agent, and that agents are overpaid.
In it he touts that we negotiate other transactions, like buying a car, ordering lunch, and hiring a lawn service without the need for professional assistance, so why not what is likely your largest asset?
He points out one case where a licensed agent hired a Realtor® because he was afraid to do it alone!
In fairness, he says NAR stats point out that the percentage of people using Realtors® has actually gone up instead of down.
Could it be that there is no licensed organization or body of any kind to help in those other negotiations unless you hire an attorney, which will likely cost more for the same result? Could it be the laws change regularly, and that is why we take education classes? Could it be that he really doesn’t know what he’s talking about, but will get paid anyway?
Maybe in order to publish this blather he should have to maintain a license and be educated first …
