My Best Advice for Real Estate Newbies

By
Managing Real Estate Broker with Riley Jackson Real Estate Inc.

I've been in real estate for 10 years and sometimes I still feel like I'm  a rookie. Starting in real estate was my first endeavor as an independent business person, and I've experimented and tried lots of different strategies, systems, gadgets etc. All this initial experimentation was pretty short lived, as I soon realized that all I needed to do is to be really good at my job and to treat people the way I would want to be treated. That meant no cold calling, no gimmicks; just quality service, skill, diligence and dependability.

I treat each transaction as if it were my own. My clients are very important and I will go out of my way to make them happy.  As a result my happy clients refer me to their friends, colleagues and family.

Just focus on doing right by your clients and your business will flow with abundance.

It's really just as easy as that.

Sandy Nelson, I am new, so where did your first clients come from?  I would go well beyond what's expected, but there has to be a beginning point.  What happens when there's nothing going on in your SOI?

I'm in total agreement Sandy, empathy works wonders in this industry. Many associates need much more than a decade to come to this determination.

Hi Brian,

I started with a very small sphere of friends, acquainted parents, husband's colleagues and neighbors. We just moved to the West Coast from NY 4 years before I started in real estate, so I didn't have any high-school friends, or large number of family. I was a member of my neighborhood association and a local non-profit, which also helped. Start with your small circle and move outwards. Best of luck!
