I recently read a about the topics. He brings up a great point about that I believe needs to be addressed. Bob Stewart weighed in that some people don't tend to think about what goes where when picking a topic. So I'd like to talk about the topics a bit and ask your opinion of what kinds of topic titles you'd like to see added. And don't go nuts. You used to put in your own topic and we had categories as far out as toe nails.
ActiveRain Community
- Things you write for others in the community to read go here. Even if you are in a family crisis and requesting members send you good vibes or pray for you. It's a great member to member topic.
Real Estate Best practices
- A great topic if you are sharing something that works for you or asking for advice about something others are doing. But again generally a professional to professional audience.
Real Estate Industry
- If you are writing about changes in the industry at large or business models this could be a great pick.
Real Estate Sales and Marketing
- A peer to peer place to write about your market trends and how you market. It's a great topic for those who are not agents but marketing to us agent to put their posts if they are trying to get business from others there.
Real Estate Technology & Tools
- Get a new camera, a new app or think others could benefit from some tool you are using be it physcial or electronic this is a great topic to choose
Mortgage / Finance
- Again peer to peer if you want to share information about mortgage and finance
Just For Fun
- A peer to peer topic to let your hair down or let off some steam and vent a little. My throwback Thursday photo posts I use this topic
The professional group of topics are meant to used mostly for peer to peer. That's why the other group is called "consumer". Let's talk about those a bit.
The "Consumer" topics are:
Home Buying
- A great topic for posts for buyers, from first time buyers to second home and investment buyer. Things consumers buyers want to read
Home Selling
- Advice to sellers on why they should call you, what to do to get ready to sell their house, this is your topic.
Home Improvement
- It's pretty self explanatory here. It's a great place for posts about flooring, cabinets, pain colors, interior design, insulation, new roof material etc. This list can go on and on for what fits here.
Real Estate General Information
- I put things that affect my market here. If a new business is moving to town that will bring new jobs thus changing the real estate market by bringing buyers it's real estate information to me. Yes, it's also local news, but if it affects the market I choose this category.
Real Estate Market Trends
- Use this topic for your market reports.
Lending / Financial
- Of course loan officers use this one a lot, but I do if I'm writing about a specific program that is in my market. We have lease holds in my market and only certain lenders will finance those, I choose this topic when writing about that.
Local News and Events
- Localism posts go here for me. And actually if public pointed this tends to be my "catch all" If I write about a global or national event and it's public pointed I put it here because nothing seems to fit.
Listings
- Do I even need to explain when to use "listings" as a topic? I didn't think so.
I would love to see a new topic to use in the consumer categories for those things that don't fit. Perhaps a "in the news" (that doesn't have local in the name) "editorial/opinion" maybe. Any suggestions from you as to topics that ActiveRain might consider adding in either category?
