EGG - Eastvale Garden Group
Plant Exchange was held October 10, 2015
on the west side of Home Depot on
6140 Hamner Avenue, Eastvale CA 91752
EGG logo is "Growing a community one garden at at time."
EGG has over 646 members comprised of residents who love gardening and organic produce. They come together once a month to share knowledge, their expertise and their produce.
Pumpkin contest was judged during October Fall exchange.
First prize received $100 dollars.
And the winner was Diane Gardner. Her pumpkin was a whopping 31lb and 11oz.
12 trees were giveaway prizes. There was an apple tree, avocado tree, banana tree, two pomegranate tree, plumeria and several other citrus trees.
I didn't win any, but there is always a chance next time around. Hopefully, there will be a guava or avocado tree...(hints for EGG)
Members started bringing their produce and exchanges around 8 am. The fun lasted till 10 am. Everyone walked away with lots of goodies. There were succulents, flowers, plants, seeds and fruits that were exchanged.
Stephanie Harford won $50 gift certificate from
HomeDepot just for wearing her EGG shirt.
Just look at that smile...
As this was my first attendance...I got to try the dragon fruit. It was delicious. Now I am hooked on this fruit. Got a pot of the dragon fruit cactus plant at the exchange and I intend to baby it for a year till it starts to produce fruits. The best part is that it does not require much water, which is great for Eastvale residents as we are going thru the worst drought in history.
EGG started last year and it continues to grow by leaps
and bounds. The best part is that we are all learning how to grow organic sustainable fruits and vegetables.
EGG is now an event that Eastonians look forward to every month. It is residents exchanging and sharing plants and having loads of fun doing it. This is the best group in Eastvale CA by far...and I am so glad to be a part of it.
A notable mention is Big Ike - soon to be Eastvale's pumpkin. It will be dedicated to the City of Eastvale on October 14th at 6 pm during City council meeting. Big Ike was the product of Roth Heng's labor and love these past few months. It weighs over 62 pounds. Ike will be presented by Penny Hanstad and Roth Heng during the city council meeting. At that time, they will be asking the council members to consider a plot for a community garden.
Don't you wish you lived in Eastvale CA?
