Browser Hijacker Program at Work Again in Katy TX

Once again I had my old HP laptop get hit with Browser Hijacker program(s) here in Katy TX. I am not sure where this stuff is coming from but there it was raising its ugly head for several weeks. I tolerated it but I keep getting sent to other web sites when I was working in Active Rain. I use Norton and Malwarebytes for virus and malware protection. This certainly did not stop the latest group from almost making my HP unuseable. I can easily say this stuff gets old very fast.

I do remember exactly when but I did write another post about a hijacker program which took several hours to get rid of and I was totally frustrated when it was finally over being the fight with this program. If I get time I will search my own blogs for that post as I am sure this hijacker is still active. .

This time I was battling something which goes by the name “Istatic.eshopcomp.com”. DO NOT go to there web site as who knows what will happen. I was getting these continuous messages about malicious software trying to go outbound from my HP. It took several tries but I believe I got rid of it by following instructions I found at http://www.pc-bot.com/how-to-delete-istatic-eshopcomp-com-effectively. I recommend doing your own search using Google. These folks offered 3 cures with two involving more virus/malware software which I sure will make you buy their software before the issue is fixed or maybe it is not fixed. I did the manual steps as I already have software which obviously is not doing the trick.

After the system reset for Google Chrome was processed, I ended with a new start page being Speedialer? I found it and hopefully eliminated it but you never know.

We bought a Macbook Air which I try to use as much as possible. The issue iis I have a lot of pictures and software with files I have to access with the HP and not the MAC. The MAC by the way is wonderful but I am having issues organizing my pictures and getting a complete. If someone got some suggestions I am all ears.

Bob,

We keep all the pictures we get and take on Dropbox, which you can access from any computer.  Apple has a new photo program which we have not yet taken the time to focus on, and that is in the cloud too.  My suggestion is to get rid of your HP and switch all stuff to Apple.  We have not had any problems, have Apple Care, and have had the best service ever.  A

This is the kind of stuff that pays my mortgage.  My hubby has an IT company and deals with this stuff all day.  He works primarily with law firms and you would be amazed how these guys click on unknown links and BAM.

Bob,

Take it to our computer store but I think that Ron and Alexandra Seigel have a great suggestion and we should do it!

Computer problems are like car problems...they stink and are very frustrating and take up your time. I hope you don't get hijacked anymore, Bob. Take care, and I'm sure the week will get better.

There are few things that will unsettle my perfect little world faster than computer issues.  I'm fortunate that I have a retired IT guy, who lives right next door.

Hi Bob.  Why not buy a small external hard drive.  (Large capacity is fairly cheap these days) and format it for use in both your MAC and PC.  Then move or copy all your images to this drive for potential use in any computer.

That stuff frustrates me greatly as well, especially since I don't know a great deal about how they work.  My computer crashed last week and it was terrible, not sure if it was caused by a virus or just age of my laptop, as it is around 5 years old.  I thought I had my emails backed up, but found out that I did not, such a bummer.

Thank you  everyone for your comments. So far so good with the old HP but one never knows. Gabe Sanders - I have tried your suggestion and i could not get the images to all copy from HP to the drive? No idea why??
