Grab This For Safety!

A Grab Bar can Hold Towels but a Towel Bar Cannot

Hold The People Who Grab It For Support.

Good sturdy grab bars can be placed in many different areas. The most popular is the bath room where most accidents occur. No reason why grab bars could not be used to hang towels.

One thing for sure it is safe and sturdy for a person to hold onto.

Standard towel bars can hold towels for many years. Some like the one below is attached with grout and the bar is an easily replaced plastic square tube.

Can you imagine if someone needed to support themselves and grabbed this kind of bar? I have seen people grab the towel bar...just to steady them selves. An accident waiting to happen.

I just finished my "Aging in Place" classes held by the Hawaii Building Association. According to the contractors I met at class many of the grab bars they see in tubs are not strong enough to fully support a person. If there is not enough support behind the tile the bars easily come out.

Margaret, grab bars are becoming more and more common in bathrooms. I think they are smart even if you haven't had knee replacement! And yeah, grabbing for a towel rack could wind up with a trip to the emergency room.
