When the World Doesn't Operate the Way You Want

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

My husband booked a home with a pool in Las Vegas for his Boy's Weekend coming up through AirBnb and, two days prior to arrival, the homeowner canceled on him. There's nothing a traveler can do about it. One can't even leave a bad review on AirBnb. They're allowed to get away with that kind of behavior.

That was only one bit of disappointing news delivered yesterday in my direction. Another was I am starting to question how I could handle a Mediterranean Cruise when there are so many migrants from Syria and elsewhere bobbing about in boats in the Mediterranean, trying to find somewhere to land without much luck. How do you not feel guilty being on vacation under those circumstances? You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Tips for Handling Disappointing News.

Airbnb does automatically leave a review that says the host canceled within x amount of days. Can't remember if it was 2 or 4, so they do let others know and if someone does it often enough they can't rent on the site anymore.

With my family living in Germany I hear all about the immigrants, going back home for 40 days in December/January so it should be interesting.

I guess that's a problem with that booking site; at least with a hotel the chances of a cancellation are fairly slim. I would not want to hear 2 days before I leave on a trip that my accommodations are no longer available.

Elizabeth, AirBnB is becoming more and more popular, and sad to hear this type of feedback.   Will have to keep this in mind.

Good morning Elizabeth. I learned a long time ago, not to fight the way the water is flowing. I like to look at it as, there is a purpose I shouldn't go one place or another. Hopefully all these disappointments will turn into something better.

Good morning Elizabeth.  Getting stuck in traffic with no where you can turn around and take another route....  It's like getting a tooth ache on a Saturday morning and your dentist's office is closed until Monday.  Deal with it or let it take over your day...  I deal with it and make the best of a bad situation...

Elizabeth, I am not a fan of AirBnB ... and that is crappy that the seller canceled.  Even crapier than you cannot leave a crappy review.

I do not know if I would feel guilty for taking a Mediterranean Cruise but I do know that I would not want to see first hand what's taking place.

Well, I've had a few internal struggles visiting some parts of Mexico where people live in cardboard boxes . . . it's not just the poverty, it's the hunger and staying warm, basic survival.

Hi Elizabeth.  Bummers.  Having just been in Greece and touring the islands.  We didn't see a flotilla of immigrant boats.

That's good to know. There are hundreds of thousands of homeless migrants, and it seems no country really wants to accept them.

Poor Pica's system is just a wreck.  I hope he gets to some stable ground soon.  I know you'll do anything to get him there.

And yes, you are gracefully floating through the disappointments and nasty turns thrown at you.  That's what makes you a successful Sacramento real estate agent.  Nothing flusters you.  It may bother you, but not knock you off track.
