Teal Pumpkin Project
In 2014 the Food Allergy Research & Education program launched the Teal Pumpkin Project to help children with food allergies enjoy a safer Halloween. It’s common for households to send off trick-or-treaters with candy. However, did you know that many of the candy given out cannot be consumed by the child collecting it?
Many kids are allergic to peanuts and other ingredients that may be found in many common candies. Instead of candy offer kids the option to grab non-food treats. From the FARE’s website they suggest treats such as bubbles, stencils, stickers, etc. Hop Online to See the Full List!
How do you participate? It’s easy. Hop online and sign the pledge. Once you sign that you can either print and put up a sign in your yard OR color a pumpkin teal and put it in a visible spot. This teal pumpkin will light up kid’s faces when they realize that there are houses who care.
There are parents across the US that spend Halloween night sorting through the candy picking half of them out as the child feels completely left out. This teal pumpkin means that parents won’t have to do that anymore.
So take the pledge, change a child’s view on Halloween. Allow more kids with allergies to indulge in their trick-or-treating finds. Relieve thousands of parents from the stress of sifting through candy while reading ingredient panels to see if they are safe.
Put a teal pumpkin out and offer a non-food treat!
