You Have Got Mail Or Do You?

These days, most people have phone and email access in the palm of their hands, via their mobile devices. So it’s easy to assume that direct mail is no longer a viable way to reach your prospects and clients.

Not so.

According to data by the Post Office, a whopping 39% of households prefer to receive advertising and special offers by mail rather than phone or email. Also, 43% favor direct mail over email when receiving correspondence from businesses and professionals they know.

So don’t make the mistake of dropping direct mail from your communications strategy. If you do, you’ll cut out more than a third of your market!

There is definitely still a market for direct mail advertising campaigns. I know which neighborhoods around me work and those that don't.

Add me to that 39%, especially if we are talking about a small business. Nowadays there is so much spam and junk in the in-box that I'm afraid even important email is overlooked.

Direct mail works for me.  It depends on whether or not you send them what they want to know.

I believe postal mail compliments our online communications.

Much like Donna Foerster above, I think it is a great thing to do along with online.  Had a question though, and I'm not doubting it, but wondering about the source of that statistic.  Of course post office wants that number shown everywhere, does any other stat from another source indicate same findings?

Winston Heverly Wow, you got the queen ( Barbara Todaro ) of direct mail to comment. Good information, for sure.

Winston, it's much easier to just delete an email than to toss a card before at least glancing at it.

I suppose some people look at direct mail.  I know that I don't have the time and that it all goes into the recycle.

Winston, we still use the snail mail approach. My first thought as I read this post how will you get your Christmas and New Year message out to you past and current clients. This week is my dead line to order my cards for direct mail.

Winston, those are interesting statistics. Who would have thought? On the other hand, I am getting inundated with emails many of which I delete without even looking at. At least, anything that comes out of my USPS mailbox, I have to put my hands which might just increase the chance of being read.

A good marketing strategy will always have a blend of digital and traditional methods. Direct mail remains a very good choice.

Direct mail is still good way to advertise. There is something to be said for getting a piece of mail you can hold in your hand.

Great info!  39% is a big percentage to ignore. I will be implementing more direct mail into my marketing next year :o)

Ugh, for myself personally I just throw it all in the trash.  Clutter.  I do however, know that there are those out there who love it.

I still do direct mail to my farm areas.  It is something that is handy if they want to call.

Winston Heverly good stats to support the fact that direct mail is still alive - and brings best results if done right.

Good points Winston Heverly ... New ways don't neccessarily replace old one's! Always market to the room that's full, regardless of the personal opinions we may hold.
