Phone call: "Why are you not more visible on social media?"

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner CA#01772851 HI#RB21268

TO SET THE SCENE:

A cup of tea on hand and the laptop in front of me, I was just about to take a few minutes to check in on Activerain. This is my way to relax, or shift gears, from another very busy day.

THEN THE CALL COMES:

It goes something likes this: "Are you still in real estate?" Yes, I confirm that I am, and can I help you? So he says, "I notice that you are not as visible on social media as you used to be. PEOPLE MIGHT THINK THAT YOU ARE NO LONGER IN THE BUSINESS"

NOPE, I said, I just don't get to it as much BECAUSE I AM SO BUSY.

AFTER I CLICKED OFF, I DECIDED I SHOULD AT LEAST THINK ABOUT IT: AM I MISSING OUT?

I like to get on my social media sites including Activerain, Facebook, Google+ and YouTube when the spirit moves me. Usually, when I take breaks from handling actual clients. Like now!

BUT TO TURN IT OVER TO STRANGERS?

Just keeping track of what messages I want to put out there by this total stranger boggles my mind. What else would I need to turn over to strangers? The content of my websites? I enjoy keeping my "brand" what it is, I've enjoyed building it up and now I am reaping the fruits:

I'M HAVING MY BEST YEAR EVER!

What I'm doing is "leveraging" the clients that are signing up with me whether they are buyers or sellers, whether they are in California or Hawaii.

What do I mean by "leveraging"? There are a whole lot of things others can help me with to get a client to closing.  It also includes getting listings onto my websites, designs and handling of signs, transaction coordination up to a point including setting up inspections, and generally make life easier for me.

OTHER THINGS THAT I'VE CONSIDERED IN THE PAST AND MIGHT WANT TO RETHINK:

- getting on the first page of GOOGLE: I'm all over that with quite a few websites. Nope.

- writing for me as if it comes from me; no way, that's way too personal. Plus, I enjoy writing myself.

- signing up for leads; I may consider that but I need help in following them up, I don't have time.

YOU SEE, MR. CALLER, CLIENTS AND POTENTIAL CLIENTS ARE CALLING ME.

They call me on my multitude of listings and asking me to find them real estate - both here and in Hawaii.

I love telling solicitors with their SEO businesses that, "Well, you found me online.  Clearly, it's not a problem."

Hella you sound as if you have everything well in hand.  Different people FOCUS on what works for them.  You are not ignoring business.  Quite the contrary with your best year ever.  Kudos.  Mark

Chris Ann Cleland - They always get in touch with me on those that are really working well for me.

William Feela - This was a new line that I hadn't heard. At least creative especially as it pertains to social media.

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint - I'm certainly not sovelling out money in that direction any time soon. There are a lot of other ways I want to expand. But at least I took the time to think about it, and the answer is "I'm fine in that direction".

Hey, if you are generating enough business the old-fashioned way, I wouldn't worry. You will get to the social media when you can.

When someone calls me with that spiel I usually tell them I don't want more business. This stumps them and then I hang up. I am as busy as I want to be.

Good morning Hella. I actually wonder how many folks actually do business with these guys? I would bet on you and the way you are getting it done already.

Jane Peters - It's not like I'm neglecting social media, far from it. But do I want to expand on it? Not at this point.

Debbie Reynolds - There is always more we can do, obviously, and I am looking to expand my brokerage, but not in that direction.

Joe Petrowsky - My business has a good balance right now, and my marketing expansions are planned in differnent directions to support that.

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

You can use the app Buffer and when you find things online you are interested in or you write something you want to share other places, you can set it up in Buffer to drip throughout the day. Then it is your words and your voice and people think you are online when you are not. Of course, like I have discovered, you have to give a $hit and do it, and I don't.
