Simplicity! Part 2

If you have too much stuff, Peter Walsh, a professional organizer on Oprah, gave a great tip.  Start small. with going through and throw away one bag of trash per day and give away one bag of stuff to your local thrift store.  By the end of the week you will have purged 14 bags of stuff out of your home.  Wow, that is doable!

simple roomAnother thing you can do is look at your life and take stock of the activities you are doing. In order to go up, you need to give up.  Don't grab and get.  Release and receive.

How valuable is your time?  Are there tasks you can outsource in your business?  Or eliminate all together?

How often do you stop and take time out for your spouse, significant other, family and/or friends?  Is it time to release some of those toxic and negative people from your life?  Life is too short.  I do not have time for them.  I have learned to surround myself with people that are greater, stronger and better than me that keep me challenged and motivated.  They lift me up, not pull me down.

We all need people who deeply love us, completely accept us and highly value us.

How much time do you spend nourishing yourself?  How often do you exercise?  You can start by taking a walk around your block.  Twenty minutes a day and you will lose a half a pound a week.  That adds up quickly.  What about a stress reliever and sanity restorer.  I personally don't like it, but I do it to help me with my weight loss program.  It is amazing how much better I feel on those days that I exercise.

What about you?  Is it time to get counseling and deal with your emotional baggage that prevents you from being your best?  How long are you going to carry those wounds with you?  One pastor friend of mine said something that has truly impacted me in my life.  He said "Wounded people hurt other people."   Are you one of those?  I know the difference it made in my life when I got counseling and my emotions healed from past wounds.  We all have them.  It's like trash.  If you don't deal with it and throw it out, it will start to stink after awhile.

Now I do know that it is not always like Nike, to just do it.  However, you need to be in the right state of mind to start change in your life.  It's like walking, one step at a time.  Before you know it, you will be amazed at the progress you have made.  Don't delay, document the things that are really important in your life and choose one thing you are going to deal with in the next month.  You don't know until you stop and listen to your heart.

What are positive and encouraging things you have learned that are simplifying your life that the rest of us can learn from you?  Those who want to grow and become the best among our Active Rain community would like to know.

Baby steps could be the key move here and forward progress.  Just like walking around the block - keep it up and you can soon do 5 miles.

These are some great tips and you are right we need to take time to nourish ourselves which I am afraid running a business just does not allow time for that. But I am hoping to schedule time for myself and planning Sunday family dinners. Life is short

Phyllis,

Ah, the importance of self care is so very important and easy to neglect.  When I want a real treat I now get a massage.  Such a great stress reliever, too.

Hi Irene,

Your post on Simplicity is critically important!  Excellent Points!

If we don't simplify, we get cluttered and overwhelmed and get buried!

We are designed to live freely and lightly!
