What that Neutral Shell can do for you. Staging in Burlington

By
Home Stager

As I sit here working in my office, I have a view of the Sparrows doing house renos for the Spring. They are busy removing bits of old nest from our bird houses so that they will be ready for next year's offspring.

We humans also turn our attention to the inside of our homes this time of year. After all we are going to spend more time inside as the weather gets colder.

If you keep the 'shell' of your home neutral it is easier to change your decor with the seasons. By changing the accessories like pillows, throws and accent pieces your home can have a whole new look.

As a Home Stager, my clients are usually  focused on preparing their homes for sale. The Seller who has a neutral color on the walls and floors is ahead of the game. Buyers prefer a neutral 'shell' because it means they can bring any color of furnishings with them and settle in with the least amount of trouble.

Sometimes, I have clients who want help setting up their new home. They fell in love with the house but are now having difficulty fitting their lifestyle into it.

This is when my sense of space and traffic flow come in handy. With an impartial new set of eyes I can ask them what they need the house to do for them. I help them prioritize their needs and perhaps see a dining room as the playroom they need on the main floor. That dining space may be possible in another area.

We can talk about updating light fixtures that will fit their 'style' and make their new house feel like 'home'.  If they are going to make changes to the shell of the home, I still recommend staying with a neutral they love. Some day, they will be moving on and there will be less work.

Don't be afraid of neutrals. They are no longer boring beige and can have so many benefits.

Janice,
Sellers need to know that they can be neutral using something other than beige. I have seen some terrific pale grey houses lately.

Janice- what an excellent post. You are so right, if we keep our homes neutral, then we can change it with ease by just adding color with accessories.

Kathy Streib it is so much easier and we can have our favourite colors in the room without worrying. If you get tired of a color just change the accessories!

Janice I so agree - keeping it neutral makes it so much easier when getting ready to sell and it also makes it easier to changes colors up from season to season.  That's what I do exactly! Right now I'm into fall colors and it's such a welcome change.  Fun post!

Anna Banana Kruchten changing accessories is much easier and more fun than painting. It can be daunting to face large painting projects to sell your home.

Janice, love it, and so many homeowners are going with more bold colors, and more difficult to work around!

Bold colors are for living Joan Cox . But using them makes a home very taste specific and harder to sell. The more who can see themselves in the house the faster it sells.
