Gaithersburg Police Station Update
Plans continue for the conversion of the building at 16 S. Summit Ave. into the City's new Police Station. The City will close on the property upon the relocation of existing tenants. Use of the building for police services is expected to occupy one full floor and half of the ground floor. Uses for the remainder of the ground floor space have been discussed during several Mayor and City Council meetings.
At a briefing on October 12 staff was given direction to explore the advantages of using the space for community meetings and possibly the relocation of the Mayor and City Council Chambers. The elected officials stressed the need for a flexible space to meet community needs, while the relocation of the Chambers would allow the City to address growing administrative needs within City Hall. Scoping documents are being prepared as the City moves into the procurement stage. The building is anticipated to be ready for occupancy in late 2018.
This is a City of Gaithersburg announcement.
