Upcycled Halloween Decor DIY and What Inspires Me

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year. The temperature in Mississippi is cooler but not cold, and that allows people to get outside and decorate their yards with bales of hay, scarecrows, and pumpkins. Some choose to take the spooky route and adorn their yards with tombstones, zombies, witches, and other creatures of the dark.

Crafting is a passion of mine, and creating fun yet inexpensive decor and yard art is right up my alley. Whenever I frequent craft bazaars and discover the latest decor d'art , I say to myself "I can do that". To the creative mind, inspiration is everywhere. If I see it, I can usually replicate it.

Since the onset of Pinterest, I find inspiration there and save ideas on my Pinterest boards for future reference. Fall pumpkins

This year I've noticed quite a few pumpkins made from wood pallets or old fence boards. Pallets are plentiful and they are FREE! Some are painted traditional orange while others are left natural or stained. Several examples are pinned on my Fall Ya'll Pinterest Board, so if you want to try your hand at making some, these instructions will get you started.

Wine bottles turned Halloween decor

Have wine bottles? Use painters tape to mask the eyes and mouth of a jack-o-lantern, then spray the bottle orange. Let dry and peel the tape away. Voila. Quick and easy decorations. These can be used indoors or out.

The simplest way to add color outdoors is with pots of yellow and bronze mums and various shades of pumpkins and gourds. Bales of hay or pine straw make the base for a nice display. The straw can be spread around your shrubs later in the season. upcycled jack-o-lantern

Carts, crates, or wheelbarrows are great containers for outdoor decor. Scarecrows and corn stalks are readily available and can be used in your fall display. Use natural materials whenever possible.

These items have all been upcycled from materials that would have been thrown away. The jack-o-lantern was made from a chair bottom that was headed to the landfill.

Needless to say, these are great projects to do with your kids and/or grandkids. They will enjoy themselves and you'll have memories to share for a very long time.

Happy Halloween!

Thanks Pat Starnes I love the Christmas ideas for wine bottles. I gave my sister some blue wine bottles and hope she still has them so I can use for decorating.

Love the creativeness.   I just turned my grandboys wagon into a pirate ship for their usage during Halloween activities.   I just haven't been able to convince them to wait until Saturday to make use of it.
