I am reading several books all serious, non-fiction books, at this time. This morning I started DIET REHAB – 28 Days to Finally Stop Craving the Foods That Make You Fat, by Dr. MIKE DOW who was co-host of FREAKY EATERS.
I recently took a food allergy test … without getting too detailed here, I encourage everyone to take the Food Safe Allergy Test. I feel better when I pay attention to the results of that test.
While I love salads and healthy foods, there are times that I totally crave a chocolate candy bar, hot rolls fresh out of the oven, etc…
Dr. Dow’s book explains that carbohydrates release serotonin, and high-fat foods boosts our dopamine levels. The feel-good chemicals. The same chemicals that antidepressants are able to make available for our brains to use to. Even nicotine lifts dopamine levels.
I am looking forward to reading this book. One of my addictions is reading self-help books! Whether it’s health, business, psychology, decorating, or just about anything else, I’m an information hound.
My favorite quote from the Introduction to this book, DIET REHAB – 28 Days to Finally Stop Craving the Foods That Make You Fat, by Dr. MIKE DOW is:
“I’ve come to see that food addictions are not a problem of willpower or greed. They are a matter of brain chemistry and needing something in your life. The secret to overcoming them is not self-deprivation or self-blame –it’s balancing your brain chemistry with foods and activities that boost the feel-good chemicals you need.”
