FOG, Nothing Romantic About Dying In it!

Scared DriverFog can be romantic if you are walking hand in hand with your lover down a familiar street but there is nothing romantic about dying in a car crash because of foggy conditions.

One may be surprised at how often we have fog in Western ND in the fall but it is a pretty common occurrence. I know I was surprised when I moved out here to see such thick fog when the temperature is hovering around (above and below) the freezing mark.

This was the case this morning. A thick fog blanketed the area this morning and it lead to a multi-vehicle pile-up and the death of a high school coach on his way to work. Traffic is scary enough in the oil patch with all the extra truck traffic we have but add thick fog to it and scary turns to deadly.

I know that no matter what I say the crazy drivers are still going to drive to fast and the overly cautious will drive to slow, also causing a hazard. This is just a reminder that if you are "white knuckle driving" you may want to re-evaluate the necessity of your trip and stay home safe and warm.

Today there is a family missing their daddy, a wife missing her husband, a team missing it's coach, and a community missing a valued member of it's community.

I know there will be many more of these foggy mornings in the next month so I just want to ask you... is getting there really worth your life?

Hi, Bob. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of the coach. What a sad day for the family, school and community.

It really is sad Debbie Laity and so unnecessary.

It was bad even in town here Debbie Laity I can hardly imagine being on a busy highway with crazy people driving the speed limit or better when you can hardly see the front of your own car. It is sad and so unnecessary.

Thank you for the timely reminder Bob. Very sad, indeed. I've had my share of increment weather to maneuver, and I imagine we've all had close calls. The older I get, the easier it is for me to say "No". There is nothing worth risking life and limb, not if I can possibly avoid it.

Thanks Becky Buck we don't have snow yet but when we get the mix of fog and snow it's really dangerous. I have friends in VA and I know you get some real bad driving weather at times too.

Good morning Bob or maybe not. Such a scary story: I am sorry to read about this.

When I read this and heard about it on the radio Sheila Anderson I kept thinking it was off to the West about 50 miles and then I realized it was just 8 miles South of home.

The slow drivers are just as dangerous as the overly fast ones...and when they meet...

Exactly William Feela and in this case the man who died was stopped on the road and a semi hit him driving at 65 mph.

Bob, when I was stationed in England the fog was so thick at times that you could not see 20 feet in front of you.

Amazing Mike Frazier do they have travel laws regarding such extreme fog? They do close roads here for blizzards in the winter.

Fog can get really nasty . . . . to the point that you can't see the front of your car.

Good luck and success.
