What a difference volunteering makes! I am voluteering locally at the Athens Regional Foundation Classic this week and I can not express how much fun I have had. This is a fantastic way to network, promote yourself and your business. I have met several professional golfers, their families and numerous people in your community. I would encourage all of you to volunteer locally and promote yourself. In this market, promoting yourself is more important now than ever before. Volunteering doesn't cost anything but time! One of our local hospitals and thier foundation holds this tournament annually. I never realized how much work behind the scenes it is to hold a function like this. This tournament is the 1st professional golf tournament ever held in the Athens area. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the foundation.

Now... a few notes about the tournament! I walked score today with the last two players to tee off. They were leaders going in to todays round. Local Brendon Todd who entered the tournament on an exemption and Greg Owen were -10 at their 12:50 tee time. WOW! That is the only word to describe how articulate, professional, skilled and polite these players were. Their caddies done amazing jobs guiding them through the day. What great physical shape these professionals must be in because I am completely worn out! After 18 holes of play- Owen birdied the last hole to force a playoff hole for the championship. Unfortuneately, Owen didn't win the playoff hole and Robert Damron won the tournament. He was extremely humbled and thankful for support of fans. He said luck was with him today. Over 500 people volunteered their time the past two weeks to prepare our town to host this tournament and it went off with out a glitch. I have never been so proud to be a volunteer, from Athens and mostly a golf fan. I encourage you to volunteer in your area, it is extremely rewarding.
Damron dawg-gone did it
Despite Greg Owen's late surge to force a playoff, Robert Damron won the Athens Regional Foundation Classic. Story
Amy, what a cool way to give back to the community. This sound like a really neat volunteer opportunity and a lot of fun!
