Tuesday Travelogue-November 3rd

Welcome to the ongoing weekly series called Tuesday Travelogue. We are in our sixty-seventh week!  Each week, some ActiveRain bloggers are spotlighted to take us somewhere we may not have been on some kind of virtual travel (and it doesn't cost a dime!). Here is the purpose:

 to enjoy the ride"

"take a trip without even leaving the farm"

"expand your horizons"

"see through someone else's eyes"

  and hopefully much more!

Today we are visiting West Virginia, my dad's home state in our travels across America alphabetically.

I know we just left a candy-filled holiday behind, but I have to show you some delectable delights for Easter at The Greenbrier in Lewisburg, WV.

Greenbrier's Easter Chocolate Display over 900 lbs of chocolateThe Greenbrier is world-famous and Rebecca Gaujot does it justice in this delicious piece about another "sweet holiday". These were all created there!

The West Virginia Panhandle is described by a long ago blogger for ActiveRain, Debbie Small. (2007)

I appreciated her lovely description from the history to the current economy and even told us about their mottoMontani Semper Liberi "Mountainmen Are Free".  Check it out and learn something about this area.

Harpers Ferry WV is our next stop. Patricia Kennedy whisks us off for a weekend drive through West Virginia. Gorgeous travel post! This is the West Virginia I remember from my college years at West Virginia University. I recall my forestry professor mentioning Harpers Ferry. I recall him saying a couple of things, about the elevation? or how small it was? or how great the fall season was? (Heck that was 37 years ago, sorry that I can't remember what he said!)Anyway, it's beautiful, let Pat show you!

It might be a bit early to think about Christmas, but it's always a good time to find great theater no matter the season! Out-of-staters, Liz and Bill Spear took us to a night at the theater in Elkins, West Virginia!  (American Mountain Theater that is...)

Please don't forget to comment on these blogposts and I hope that you enjoyed all of these virtual travels. Feel free to join our group:

Gayle, Thanks for the mention!  My dad told me during my last visit that the folks running the theater had a big falling out amongst the two families that perform.  Hopefully they get it all ironed out!

West Virginia does have some mountains.  I have been there but traveled down from Pittsburgh.  There was a large canyon there that they called the Grand Canyon of the East

Wow, this takes me back! I used to work for a commercial property management company who managed 4 shopping centers in Kentucky and the Greenbrier Mall in WV. It was a really fun job, because I got to do the Easter and Christmas promotions that year before the company was sold. I got to visit every shopping center except for that one - and that was really the one I wanted to see. Thanks for bringing up good memories. Maybe some day I will visit there anyway.

Thanks for a visit to West Virginia girlfriend! They are well known for those gorgeous mountains country roads.  The Greenbrier is one of my favorite hotels in the U.S.  And, now I know that your dad hailed from West Virginia - was your mom a mountain momma? (a la John Denver)

Oh, no, missy, she was  a NEW YORKER! Talk about two diverse cultures coming together. She was from Syracuse, NY he was from Weirton WV. They met on a blind date in college at Syracuse University. Married 46 years when my beloved dad passed away at a very young 65.
