Laughing BuddhaThis morning I was reading other people's blogs, when I came across Steven Hoffacker's post on "The Funny Things We Say."  It inspired me to write something similar, but about the funny things that kids say - namely my kid!

My oldest - Ciarra - has quite a way with words!  So, its inevitable that those words should occassionally result in hilarity - for us grown ups!

The story goes like this...

Last summer, Ciarra and I were headed to her swim lesson.  She was already in her swimsuit and covered up by regular clothes.

Now, my husband and I try to instill spirituality in our childrens' lives by attending church, a spiritual center, and talking about God.  We tell her, "God is everywhere, and in everything."

Are you wondering why I seemed to interrupt this story to talk about spirituality?  Well, here is why.

As we were walking to our vehicle, Ciarra was having a "wardrobe malfunction", with the back of her bathing suit riding up her behind a bit.  She started tugging at it, and said to me "God is taking my bathing suit out of my butt."

"What?!"  I said as I burst out laughing.  She then calmly and logically explained to me, "Well, God is in everything, so God is in my hand.  So God pulled my bathing suit out of my butt crack."

Enjoy folks!  This is a TRUE story.

12 Comments on The Funny Things Kids Say - A Conversation on God

Ah kids!  I was telling my then 3 year old son one day in the car how Jesus looks after him.  He calmly asked me if the bad guys come and try to hurt us, "what's Jesus gonna do then?"  I had to call my pastor to ask!  He didn't have an answer either.  At 3, he got to the gist of it.  Of course, that was the same year he told me he was upset because sometimes he doesn't think I'm very pretty!  We had to have the "if you don't have something nice to say, say nothing" conversation!

Very funny.  Tough sometimes to explain to them how things are not always quite so literal.  All you can do is learn right along with them.  Thanks for sharing.
