6 Important Reasons Why Blogging is Crucial for Your Business

6 Reasons Why Blogging is a Valuable Marketing Tool for RealtorsIt’s really disappointing when I hear a Realtor® say they don’t think there’s any value in having a blog.  Au contraire.  Your blog is one of the most valuable resources you have for building traffic to your website.  All it takes is time and consistency.

Here’s 6 Important Reasons Why Blogging is Crucial for Your Business:

  • Search Engine Optimization – By writing keyword-rich posts, you’re helping search engines find your website.  Why?  Since search engines love websites that are updated often, a blog post is one way to ensure that happens.  A well-optimized post is Google gold.
  • Interaction With Your Target Market – By writing topics that are of interest to your market, you’re opening up an opportunity for your readers to comment and discuss your post.  Make it a habit to email blast your contact list with a “blog blurb” and link back to your post.
  • Building Your Authority – Your posts are a reflection of your expertise and knowledge  about a particular subject.  As more and more people read your posts, they will get to know you as the real estate authority in your neighborhood.
  • Be the Solution – This goes along with building your authority.  Your readers will look forward to reading your posts.  As you write, think of questions your buyers and sellers have asked you.  Pose that question as a blog topic and then provide the answers.
  • Post Your Listings – Be sure to write posts about your new listings.  Include a main photo, description and other information about the property.  Include a link (hopefully, within your website) to the community information where the listing is located.  Make sure your blog has share buttons.  Your readers may not be in the market right now, but they might know someone who is.
  • Let Your Little Light Shine – Your blog is a great way to let people get to know you.  Did you participate in a community event?  Post pictures of yourself and write about the event; why you were involved, what it meant to you, what the event was about.  When you get an award, professionally or personally, share that in a post.

Taking these 6 important reasons into consideration, it’s easy to see why a blog is crucial for your business’ success.  Keep researching and writing about what your target market is interested in.  Be consistent and be the solution.  Optimize your posts and share them everywhere you have the opportunity.  This will encourage the search engines to give your posts good rankings while building your reputation as the “go to person” in your area.

So here is the part I dont understand.  I hear and read about how posts are supposed to be full of keywords, etc but every post I read here in the Rain is just a narrative without any keywords (that I can see anyway).  Are there two kinds of posts we should be doing?  I used to think I understood this stuff but not so much any more.....

Hi John - As a Realtor, you should definitely be posting about your listings and the area your do business in.  You should be posting about what your target market is interested in and answer questions you're asked by your buyers and sellers.  Keywords and optimization are a huge factor in being found by search engines that lead to prospects.  I hope that answers your question.  If not, give me a call or send me a private message.  I'll be happy to see if I can answers your questions.

I guess what I dont understand is this...Take this post for example. I dont see it filled with keywords and certain phrases repeated over 4 different times like I learned a few years ago.  Have times changed and that is no longer necessary or are there two styles of blogs we should be doing?  One like this that is in a narrative form and other posts that repeat keywords and phrases over and over?

Pamela Cendejas Thank you for this reminder about blogging.  I am one of those agents who does not blog consistently because when I sit down to do a blog it seems to take a few hours, which I rarely have.  So I guess I need to learn how to write a blog without getting all tied up with time.  Is there a place where I can learn about the tagging on AR ... how we are supposed to use those words? I am not sure I totally understand that. I'm with you, #13 -- it would be nice to see a post on a small blog showing the blog along with the tagging or keywords used so we (novice) bloggers can hone our skills!

Every time I talk with a new agent I encourage him or her to blog - especially here on Active Rain. Unfortunately, most of them say "I can't write." It really is their loss.

Like I said in my opening comment, it's disappointing when a Realtor doesn't take advantage of such a powerful resource.  Hopefully, they're finding other methods to work for them.

I'm still a little bit blogging-shy, even I clearly understand all benefits of blogging for my business. Blogging requires a lot of discipline and dedication.

Hi Inna - I agree with you - blogging does require a lot of discipline and dedication.  Since you're a Realtor, I have to believe that is something your already possess.  What I find helpful is to add it to my calendar as if it were something I had to do for one of my clients.  If I didn't do that, the time would just fly by and there'd be no post.  As you build your audience, you'll find that you make time to write because you know they're looking forward to your post and you don't want to disappoint them.

A big mistake some people make during the "bad" times is to stop marketing.  You've got it right, Gary.  And, blogging is one of the most economical ways to do that.
