6 Important Reasons Why Blogging is Crucial for Your Business

Of course I had to re-blog a post that reinforces what I tell new agents all the time!

"Start blogging and don't stop!"

Too many tell me "I can't write," but that's a poor excuse. If you can talk, you can write. Sure, you might need a friend to proofread for you and perhaps edit a little as you hone your skills, but you CAN do it!

6 Important Reasons Why Blogging is Crucial for Your Business

6 Reasons Why Blogging is a Valuable Marketing Tool for RealtorsIt’s really disappointing when I hear a Realtor® say they don’t think there’s any value in having a blog.  Au contraire.  Your blog is one of the most valuable resources you have for building traffic to your website.  All it takes is time and consistency.

Here’s 6 Important Reasons Why Blogging is Crucial for Your Business:

  • Search Engine Optimization – By writing keyword-rich posts, you’re helping search engines find your website.  Why?  Since search engines love websites that are updated often, a blog post is one way to ensure that happens.  A well-optimized post is Google gold.
  • Interaction With Your Target Market – By writing topics that are of interest to your market, you’re opening up an opportunity for your readers to comment and discuss your post.  Make it a habit to email blast your contact list with a “blog blurb” and link back to your post.
  • Building Your Authority – Your posts are a reflection of your expertise and knowledge  about a particular subject.  As more and more people read your posts, they will get to know you as the real estate authority in your neighborhood.
  • Be the Solution – This goes along with building your authority.  Your readers will look forward to reading your posts.  As you write, think of questions your buyers and sellers have asked you.  Pose that question as a blog topic and then provide the answers.
  • Post Your Listings – Be sure to write posts about your new listings.  Include a main photo, description and other information about the property.  Include a link (hopefully, within your website) to the community information where the listing is located.  Make sure your blog has share buttons.  Your readers may not be in the market right now, but they might know someone who is.
  • Let Your Little Light Shine – Your blog is a great way to let people get to know you.  Did you participate in a community event?  Post pictures of yourself and write about the event; why you were involved, what it meant to you, what the event was about.  When you get an award, professionally or personally, share that in a post.

Taking these 6 important reasons into consideration, it’s easy to see why a blog is crucial for your business’ success.  Keep researching and writing about what your target market is interested in.  Be consistent and be the solution.  Optimize your posts and share them everywhere you have the opportunity.  This will encourage the search engines to give your posts good rankings while building your reputation as the “go to person” in your area.

Awesome re-blog, I am a fan of writing about everything in my life some people think it is crazy, but when a potential buyer or seller reaches out to me...they already know me and love me... the ones that do not...guess what they do not reach out... and it is OK with me, Endre

Endre Barath, Jr. I couldn't agree more. I don't even want to deal with people who don't care for people like me.

I'm still a little bit blogging-shy, even I clearly understand all benefits of blogging for my business. Blogging requires a lot of discipline and dedication.

Marte Cliff Very good point, "If you can talk, you can write."

I have a very common name. Before blogging I could not be found on Google. I know, I looked. Actually, I found myself on page 500 of results. Now I am on page one. And all I did was talk.

Well put Marte!  At the end of the day, blogging is still about connecting with people.  It's just using technology to help us connect with more likeminded folks far and wide.  And a good reminder that it's not just about what you get in the short term, but it's about what you give.

Inna Ivchenko Yes, but look at the rewards!

Sam Shueh Thanks!

Wayne Martin It does sort of force that issue, doesn't it?

Joe Jackson Yes, as long as you remember keywords and links.

Bill Roberts How long did it take you to look through those 500 pages before you found yourself? I don't even have a common name, but until I started blogging, I was also hard to find. There's some kind of ball player with the last name "Marte" and he always dominated the first many pages.

Marie Bumback I'm really thankful to have it for the connection part. Were it not for my clients and my Active Rain friends, there would be no one to talk with about the things that interest me - like words, and marketing, and real estate.

Hi Marte Cliff , Nice choice for a reblog. Computers are the answer to new clients, and blogging is an important part of getting those clients.

Larry Johnston It really is amazing how computers and blogging have changed real estate. They've changed my business as well. It seems like only yesterday when most of the blogs I saw were nothing more than diaries - ramblings about the events in a person's day.

I recall mentioning a copywriter's blog to another copywriter - the grammar and sentence structure were terrible and I said that wasn't a very good advertisement for her work. The other writer said "Oh it doesn't matter. A blog is just a personal thing. No one else reads them."

That MAY have been true in 2007 - but it sure isn't true today.
