Finding Out it wasn't Me

Not sure if many of you set up Google Alerts for different keywords that you want to keep an eye on. Whether for marketing or just keeping an eye on your competiton (spying!), I suggest that its a healthy business practice to follow. So imagine my surprise when I googled myself in Chrome's Incognito mode this morning and saw a post where I was quoted. Problem was, I never remembered giving a quote to FNMA back in 2014.

Worse yet, there was this dog 'tale' of my German Shephard chewing up the molding in my rin tin tinoffice. So in this '5 Tips for Pet Lovers' post there I was being quoted about my less than wonderful puppy chewing up my house. How I recommend that all that molding & wrecked carpeting would have to be replaced in order to keep the value in my home.

Nope, not me. Don't have a German Shephard but I do have a mutt mix called 'Bella the Blunderdog'.

Just keeping an eye out for your name is just good business sense & are you the one with the German Shephard?

Those alerts are a must.  Good to know who is using your name and what is being said.  In this case,  you found out stuff that someone is attributing to you that was never said.

Sometimes a good thing is also a double edge sword...but many times we need to do it anyway

Your post made me chuckle - and feel a bit sad. The pup we lost to kidney failure last spring did indeed chew our carpets - and I think a molding or two. If I could have him back, he could chew up the whole house and I wouldn't care.

I wonder if this post will lead you to the person who shares your name?

That's too funny.  My name is so unique, I doubt I can say it wasn't me . . . it probably was

Lyn, You just never know what Google will turn up next!  And yes, I've got a few of those alerts set up too, some just to keep an eye on where our names are being used, the others for our patio home niche.  A lot of false positives, but it's also a good way of telling how quickly some of our blog posts are indexed.

So, it was someone else with your name that just happened to be a Realtor who was quoted in a FNMA magazine? That's bizarre. Or is there more to the story?

Bliz:  That is absolutely true. It's phenominal how fast our posts get indexed sometimes & by setting up an alert you find out what you've wondered about.

Pat:  Has my company name with it so I think they mean me lol. I think that the quotes just got mixed up by the author.

Lynn - Now that is interesting to hear. You are being quoted in two separate articles, only it isn't you. I wonder why anyone would do that, since the quotes seem relatively harmless.

Can't imagine that anyone that knows you, even a little, wouldn't know this wasn't you, Lyn Sims ... and that this German Shepherd was an impostor!  I can only imagine how upset Bella was!

That said, this happening would be a bit unsettling.  And I'm off to see what if anything I find out about myself too ... thanks for the heads-up and reminder!

Happy Holidays to you and Bella!

Gene

Hi Lyn Sims , I was surprised that there are about 26 people with my name, right down to the middle initial.  One is an artist and another a Real Estate professional.  Amazing!
