After reading Anthony Clark'sblog post Why is it such a surprise? Yesterday, an idea popped into my head that I thought would be fun, while encouraging involvement from all of our markets around the nation. If you're new to Active Rain or you've been around a while and just haven't been sure what topic to post about, here's your chance. If you're not new, you know what to do!

Most of us have probably seen "What You Get For The Money" on HGTV. For those who haven't, it's a weekly show in which they summarize properties in different markets around the country in similar price ranges, to show the variation of features, amenities and property values nationally.

I enjoy keeping up with the national market almost as much as my local market, so I thought it would be fun to do our own little Rainers version of the show, starting with the $100,000 range.

In Edmond, Oklahoma, here's what you can get for $100,000:

This home was built in 1963. It's a 2 bed, 1.5 bath, brick & frame home with 1011sf MOL. It has a 2-car attached garage, 1 living, 1 dining, central heat & air, comp roof & wood fence. The description on the OKC MLS reads as follows:

*This Home has been totally updated and remodeled. Wide Open space between eating and living. Nice pergo floors and recent carpet in Beds. Very clean with a 2 car garage and large storage shed in backyard. All new wood fence. Perfect for Small Family or Single person, Don't miss out, VERY CUTE!

This home closed January, 2007 @ $103,900.00 or $102.77 per square foot.

Now it's your turn. I'll be back tomorrow to show you what you can get in Edmond for $200,000. See you all then!

Great idea!  There literally is not one property, even raw land, in Gilbert, AZ available for $100k.  I even checked for the past 12 months.  But it will be interesting to see what everyone else comes up with.

Hi Ryan,

I would like to pitch in for what you get for $253k in Wesley Chapel but I will wait for your post when you reach that level.

Great idea.

Including a map would make this an instant hit!

Elena, I knew there would be some markets that wouldn't be able to participate until we got up to the higher-priced properties. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have tomorrow @ $200K.

Mario, that's a GREAT idea. Any ideas on how to do it?

Hi Ryan:  What a great idea!  I think you can buy a little more house in the Houston area than Oklahoma.  Our taxes are probably higher than yours though.  I will try and put something together.
