Today is Veterans Day --- But as many as 30,000 Veterans need your help. No one knows how many deported Veterans there are, but even one is unacceptable.
These are individuals who, at one point, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America’ for an amount of ‘up to and including their life.’
As a Veteran, I know they were there for you and for me. I know others in my unit were from other countries and I know they backed me up.
And now US Veterans have been deported to at least 27 different countries, where they hope and pray for a chance to return to the country they love.
Many of them were guilty of simple crimes such as driving under the influence, writing bad checks, marijuana offenses or even bar fights. And now the government they served has booted them out.
What can you do to honor all Veterans? You can take a minute to help the Veterans who backed all of us up and have now been deported.
Call, email or write your representatives in Washington, tell your friends, write a letter to your local paper and re-blog this post.
It is nice to see a Veterans holiday, but now is the time to show that you really appreciate the sacrifices that have been made for you --- take a few minutes and do something that matters more than a "Thank You".
We let him down and he never got to return.
The upside down U.S. flag is an official signal of distress. This flag has been painted on the US/Mexico border.
