AR Contest - Show Us Your Wallpaper
As Real Estate professionals, we spend our days engrossed with our client’s houses. We strive to take a personal interest in their lives and their needs. We visualize and highlight the best parts of their properties, to the point that even years after the fact, we can recall layouts and features of our client’s listing!
It is because of this that I have such a fond appreciation for my own home. The wallpaper on my phone is a photo of me and my husband. Every time I open my phone (which you KNOW is often), I am greeted by this quick snapshot of the two of us together. This tiny reminder helps me to remember the important details of my own home, my own family in the midst of a million appointments.
Working with hundreds of families every year to find their next dream home, is a worthwhile and rewarding job. We love that we get to share in the experience of helping hundreds of new families find their new house. Chris and I know all about this; we recently moved from the house that we lived in for 30 years! It is such a bittersweet time right not, learning the endearing characteristics of our new condo, while still remembering all of the memories made in our old house. If ever I find myself inundated with questions of square footage or counter offers, I can take a quick peek at my phone and see this photo of Chris and I smiling back at me. He is my home, and I carry that with me every day.
ActiveRain contests are typically a great way to share useful knowledge with our community. They are very effective at teaching us new skills and giving us powerful new tools, making us better at what we do.
This isn't that kind of contest.
It is, however, all about sharing. One of the reasons we have become such a powerful community is because we have, through our blogging and commenting, gotten to know each other on a more personal level. We interact as peers and friends, and we support each other through the good and not-so-good times. We care about each other. So this contest is focused on furthering that aspect of AR, by helping us know each other better.
Most of us have something potentially quite revealing about ourselves that is in plain sight but neither public nor secret, something we have chosen to make a personal statement just for our own edification.
Our wallpaper.
And no, I don't mean the stuff on the wall in your dining room, but rather the background images we have chosen to decorate our cell phones, tablets and computers. We generally don't think of sending a message to others when we choose our wallpaper - it's usually just something important to ourselves. It might be a pretty scene that speaks to us, or a loved one, or a fond memory or milestone in our lives. And it's my suspicion that therein lies a good story.
So, show us your wallpaper. Tell us why you chose it and what it means to you.

Here, I'll go first. This is the wallpaper for my iPad, on which I do most of my personal fooling around with the internet. I read the news, browse all of my favorite websites, play a few games, and basically look at the world on my iPad. When I saw this wallpaper of Beaker, his expression really captured my reaction to much of what I was seeing online, as my wanderings expose me to popular culture, today's politics and the rest of what's going on in the world. I really couldn't say it better than Beaker does, without saying a single word.
By the way, Beaker has always been one of my favorite Muppets, but not my very favorite - that would be Lew Zealand, the one with the boomerang fish, followed closely by Statler & Waldorf, who are serving as my role models as I become a genuine old fart.
Your turn. Show us your cat, your grandkids, the fall colors, whatever you have chosen on one of your devices to express yourself. Write a bit about why this particular image is important to you - give us the story and a quick peek into your head. I promise we'll be interested and respectful, or at the very least, discreet in our hilarity.
The rules:
- Write a post featuring the image of the current wallpaper on one of your devices (Um, be mindful of copyright issues if these aren't your own).
- Write 200 or so words about what this image is, what it means to you, and why this is something you want to look at several times a day.
- Leave a link (new window, please) in the comment section of this post.
- Post your entry no later than 11:59PM November 30, 2015
- Have fun!
The Reward:
- All AR members participating in this contest will receive 500 points!
