Sierra Marketplace in Reno, NV

Improvement? Yes - Progress? No

The local Sierra Marketplace shopping center, adjacent to the Atlantis Hotel and Casino in Reno, NV, at the intersection of Moana Lane and South Virginia Street is finally getting a long awaited face-lift.

Not only the property was outdated, it was for the most part sitting idol and desolate. One would try to blame the area, except of the fact that these two streets are major arterial connectors in Reno, with easy access to the freeway and only 10 minutes from Downtown Reno. But it doesn't matter anymore. They are finally undertaking the much awaited improvements. Or at least partially.

Where once was two wings of the shopping center, now it became only one small strip and the other building was taken down to give room for a new and improved parking lot. Technically, it is an improvement. The old building and almost the entire area was quite scary. However, it is no way progress.

Thank you Wayne for your comment. The shopping center had a master plan for total rebuild, but they scratched it and according to the City of Reno they now have a plan to build a parking structure by 2018. However, I am still hoping that something great will be built. The property is owned by the same group as the Atlantis.
