Fishhawk Creek Stormy Waters!

Please Conserve!

Because of the amazing amounts of water coming being dumped from the skies above, Fishhawk Creek has caused much *turbidity in the waters below our ranch, a mile away at Fishhawk Lake

The team of employees, Kevin Adolphson and Travis Graham have been working round the clock diligently to "make water" for the residents....a very tough and arduous task with heavy rains like this that cause the Creek by the water treatment plant to be "blown out".

We are asked, during times like this to conserve water. The process to clean the water is extremely difficult when the turbidity is at such high levels.

Here is a video that I just shot about an hour ago.

*turbidity:not clear or transparent because of stirred-up sediment or the like;clouded; opaque; obscured:

the turbid waters near the waterfall.

Here is another video of the process (part 1) that our Fishhawk Lake employees go through to make our waters drinkable.

They are working hard so that we can live in such a beautiful place!

Thank you, Kevin, Travis and all of the others who are helping us remain a self-sustaining community  at Fishhawk Lake!

Gayle, that is a raging run you have out back!  Just curious to know how many inches of rain you had today to produce that torrent of water in your backyard?

Hopefully you don't have a basement!

Bruce, we are up high enough not to worry. Not sure how many inches we've gotten, but this is day two of torrential rains, and it's been doing this since last Thursday off-and-on!

The salmon aren't spawning yet, but coming soon...

It DOES seem crazy, Karen, but it's POTABLE water that they are trying to make so that people can use it for human consumption. LIfe at the Lake, what can I say?

Hope the rain slows and you can get back to normal. A nearby town have a similar problem with there water treatment system about a year ago. Very hard on the folks living there. Have a great day Gayle.

It got worse after I shot this, Beth! But, the good news is that we saw stars in the night sky last night and at this moemnt a bit of sun--the birdies are out eating their birdseed on the deck that I shot this, so it's all good!

I would have thought that you'd have water wells and not public water.  Very interesting.

Tammy, we have a well on our proeprty. But we're just a mile up the creek. The first developer had to stub out both water and sewer hook-ups at each property, something he hadn't planned on and went bankrupt in the process from what I've been told.

Yeah, I had thought that there were those in power trying to come up with ways to house the waters that we in the PNW get and ship it down to you! I recall something being discussed on NPR, several months ago.

It's of interest even to those who aren't living out here full time, just so the the 80% of vacation owners are updated as to what's what in their lake community. I put it in a group on my Facebook page, too, called Fishhawk Lake Folks.

We had non stop rain in May followed by 4 months of drought followed by weekly rains, so I can relate to extra high levels of rain. It is crazy. It all goes in cycles although some years it is nutty, no question.

Hi Gayle - That's a lot of water. It's good to know you have competent people on the problem - hope they get ot running soon. I can't imagine our HOA idiots trying to run a water system out of our lake.

It's been incredible. We are grateful that we only lost power for about an hour and half. The winds and rains have been hellish and the Little Washougal River is roaring. Hope you get your water situation resolved.

Debb, we JUST put in a Generac about one and half weeks ago. Thank God! The whole house is connected. We lost power at least 6 times. The last time was for several hours. We can live off-the-grid now for quite awhile, though.

Gayle, I had no idea more rain would in turn mean you need to conserve. Your explanation makes perfect sense just never would have thought of it that way. I hope things calm down soon.

Gayle, the one thing we have here is loss of power. But, we have a Generac whole-house generator. Last week the power went out, our generator did not come on. The next day the serviceman arrived and we needed a new battery.  Two good videos with this post. The first one actually made me chilly and I had to get a sweater :)

Nov 19, 2015 11:17 AM
Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate

We put in our newest Generac just about a week and a half before this storm. (I mentioned this to Debb Janes also). Thank God! Our power went out about 6-7 times that day. And we had a bunch of contractors here trying to do work. Thank goodness it started right up each time and in about 15 seconds we had all of our house working.
