The new Netflix series "Jessica Jones" was released this past Friday, 11/21, and I was able to find the time to watch the entire season this weekend. Here are some of my initial spoiler free thoughts on the series.

The show began with a very strong Philip Marlow Private Investigator vibe. I like this dark shadowy feel. To me Jessica Jones felt like a mix of Philip Marlow and The Watchmen character The Comedian. Very adult and explicit.

The setting is the Hells Kitchen neighborhood of New York which is also the home of Daredevil, another Netflix show and both are now a part of the Marvel Universe.

The super hero stuff is a bit more subtle here and not as big or on such a large scale as any of the Avengers movies. Jessica Jones is based on a comic written by Brian Michael Bendis who also wrote the "Agent of Sword" storyline for Spider-Woman. The visuals, tone and manner that this show has been filmed compliment Bendis' books nicely.

Jessica Jones is a bit more grown up than most of the other players in the Marvel Universe at the moment. Iron Man, Thor and Captain America are all a bit more main stream and family friendly compared to this latest addition. Daredevil was a darker addition to the Marvel Universe as well but Jessica Jones ups the body count, is more bloody and the most graphic in tone, content and visuals of any of the other series.

The talent level of the cast is incredible. The group of actors that Marvel was able to pull together is really amazing. Every character whether they seem major or minor all have their moment(s) to shine with some truly outstanding acting. There are plenty of wow moments delivered by some powerful acting.

Marvel does a great job of planting seeds for future story lines and crossovers. I am excited to see what Marvel has planned for the future.

The next new series coming out will be Luke Cage. He was introduced in this series. After that the second season of Daredevil will come out. I am looking forward to all these shows and can't wait to see the shows overlapping, complimenting each other and seeing crossovers of characters. There was a crossover with Jessica Jones but this is a spoiler free review.

This shows release marks another chapter in a big commitment Netflix has taken on. The release of the Luke Cage series will be another piece to this puzzle that Netflix is putting together. As each series introduces us to these characters, they will all eventually appear together in one awesome (hopefully) Netflix mini series.
