Men With Guns in North Dakota

hunting

While going through a box of old photographs in my office (cleaning time) I ran across this old black and white of a deer hunting party that I assume was taken in the 1950's. It must have been taken at this time of year as I believe deer gun season ends this week.

If you are hunting for a new home or a Real Estate Agent (who fully supports gun ownership I might add) to list your home please call National Marketing Realtors today.

Good Monday morning Bob "RealMan" Timm -

Wow looks like those guys knew what they were doing when it came to deer hunting.  Food for the winter!

I think you are correct John McCormack that those guys planned on feasting on there bounty and not decorating their walls with it.

Bob... I love seeing old photos like this... there's something always very evocative about them.

I agree Nina Hollander I want to know about each individual in a picture like this, how their lives unfolded, are they still alive today, etc.

At least those families had food to eat that fall/winter but even though I am a meat eater I do feel for the animals as well Belinda Spillman

Hi Bob "RealMan" Timm

When we lived on the Air Base in Minot ND in the early 60's, my dad went hunting several times. I am not sure where in the US but maybe Minnesota or Montana as it was not too far away but they also went to Canada a couple of times and brought back deer. We had a freezer in our basement and lots of deer meat. My dad was always dressed so neat in his uniform for so many years and when he would come home from hunting, he was typically wearing plaid shirts, babby pants, cap, and a week of beard.

Cool story Kristin Hamilton CA Realtor . I'm not the biggest fan of venison but I love deer jerky. Obviously your Dad either got PCSed out or he decided ND wasn't or him. Almost everyone hates coming here but by the time their enlistment is up about half of them retire here and stay.

Your time frame would be close for into the early 60's deer populations were at all time lows and you would not have seen the success this part did

William Feela thanks for the confirmation as I was guessing by the women's glasses.

That's a pretty amazing vintage picture, Bob!  And, that's quite a gathering of men with their guns.

There seems to be a few women and kids in that photo of men with guns in North Dakota. Women shot deer for food, too, right? Although, I'm with you, I don't much like the taste of venison. But if I was starving to death in the Armistice Day Blizzard, I'd eat it.
