Ergonomic Tools for Full-Time Realtors

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

You sit in your chair as an agent for a good part of your day, if you're a full-time agent. Part-time agents have lots of time to do other things: go shopping, plant gardens, watch TV, read books, tend to kids, pets, whatever they do when they're not selling real estate. But full-time agents, especially top producer Realtors, spend most of their time working, and you just can't get away from the computer and be 100% effective.

It's really terrible when you're traveling, I've found. The don't generally have ergonomic equipment available in hotel suites at resorts because they figure people are on vacation and not working, but working vacations are a norm for me. At my home office, though, I expect quality ergonomics to get me through the day. You can read more in my personal blog today about Buying an Ergonomic Task Chair for a Sacramento Realtor.

You are right on Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents about not being able to get away from that computer. I have an inversion table at home that I try to use daily to help me straighten back out.

I'm on the computer a good 8 to 10 hours on most days. That's nuts.

I've been looking for a good chair for my office.  The one I spent a good chunk of change on served me well, but over time, it turns out it was terrible on my knees because it was too short.

I'll have to check this one out.  I love that you can design your own with mesh, fabric or leather.  I am gravitating toward the blue or light teal colors.

If you don't need the "mouse arm" attached to the chair arm like I do, then you might want to look at the Gesture chair.

I bought a cheap chair when my other literally fell apart - it was quick, in and out of the store in 5 minutes, BUT--it's a crappy chair--I got what I paid for. I'm going to explore the VERY chair - thanks, Elizabeth!

Once you get done with all of the extras for VERY chair, it's a bit more expensive, but then you also get exactly what you want, and aren't we as Realtors worth that?

Elizabeth,  Most agents who are in a real estate office are not "working".  I work from my home office. Comfort is so important. I can not imagine buying a chair without sitting it in first.  I like my chair and the way my home office is set up.

I managed to find a place in Rancho Cordova that sells Haworth chairs but I left a message for a sales rep yesterday and given how many sales reps are these days, I'll probably be in Hawaii by the time Holly gets around to calling me back.

Good morning Elizabeth. Some very good advice, it sounds like you are speaking from experience.

Yes, I have had my share of computer-related ailments that no longer exist for me, thank goodness. After you cut off your head and your arms, there isn't much left to go wrong.

Good morning Elizabeth.  I'll take what you wrote to heart.  I know my back is telling me I need something.  Time to see if our local WalMart has any in stock.....

Your chair makes such a huge difference when you spend so much time in it, that's it worth splurging a little bit and investigating your options.

I'm all for ergonomic chairs as well, Elizabeth.  Though, I can't see myself buying one that costs more than a $1,000.

I am tempted with those $3500 Eames chairs, but the seating looks like my patio furniture -- fine for a few hours but not all day long.

Elizabeth, it is difficult at times when traveling and doing work comfortably.   I have sat on the bed with my laptop, which is so not comfortable!

I even paid extra for my laptop to get a solid state drive so it won't heat up in my lap. When I'm working from a resort in Hawaii, I often sit on the beach with a laptop in my lap and people stare, no doubt feeling sorry for me, LOL. Little do they know how much FUN it is!!!
