My niece from Australia was here last week, so decided to drive up to the lake and show her my favorite fishing hole.  What we found was the lake still frozen solid.  So if your thinking of coming up opening weekend, and chasing the elusive Brown Trout, better pack your ice pick as the lake is frozen solid.  Exceptions being Davis and Wickiup Arms.  Camping could be limited as to snow still in the camp grounds and chilly nights are still with us.  Temperatures this week are still dropping into the low to mid teens at night.

Typically the lakes are of liquid form this time of year as opening weekend arrives.  High Lakes highway is currently not open yet.  Paulina and East Lake is a no go, no access and frozen solid.  This has been one of our longer, colder winters, not typical.

Central Oregon has so many High Lakes to chose from, it makes this area a fisherman dream.  If you'd rather fish on the river, the area also features the Deschutes, Little Deschutes and Fall Rivers.  Many Lucky Riverfront home owners have the luxury of fishing from their private dock and some even their decks.

Off to a cool start, but we know as always the warm weather of spring and summer is right around the corner.

Can you fish for the trout through the ice?  I don't know if that's how you would do it or not.

Where is Spring?  We are ready to go for Opening Weekend......We'll just make up our own dates as soon as we don't have to push the boat off the trailer and out on the ice to find water...
