Turkey Day- The Leftovers
I had been waiting for this day… my cheat day when I could eat whatever I wanted. All of the hard work at the gym and walking at the beach, carefully watching my carbs and protein shakes for lunch so that I could have one day a week where I could eat whatever I wanted.
Here’s the problem… your stomach becomes accustomed to working on about half of what you used to eat. It says “OK, you want to run this machine on less food… that’s ok with me!”
So you’re all excited about eating mashed potatoes, dressing, etc and then your stomach says : “Hey, don’t give me any more. Quit trying to stuff me!!!”
I looked down at my plate and 75% was carb-laden-mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn souffle, homemade rolls, gravy… 1 piece of turkey.
Did you know that 46 million turkeys are eaten each Thanksgiving? Were I a turkey, I might be protesting.
What I like the least about Thanksgiving or any other big food holiday or event is what to do with all of the leftovers. You can’t really begin to wash the dishes until you disperse all of the turkey and dressing. I think I actually like the traditional Thanksgiving Day meal the day after, so I’m happy to take home my little parcel of Turkey Day food.
And finally, one of my other favorite things to do on T-Day is to watch football. However, what the heck is happening to the Eagles; Romo is out (again) for the season, and I doubt I can stay up to watch all of the Packers vs Bears game. (hang in there Sally K. & David L. Hanson )
It also occurred to me, after spending time with my extended family that the key word in this sentence is family.
What you have to eat isn’t as important as the people you’re sharing it with. And who you’re with becomes your family.
OK…. I’m ready for the next holiday.
