Ok while I was reading over the local paper and came across a article about a "RAMP FESTIVAL". So I'm thinking what is a ramp festival so I read on to learn that it is something to eat. So I have checked around to see what in world is a ramp.
Now I have lived in the south all of my life and I have never eaten a "ramp" and still not so sure I want to, so to all of my southern friends here on AR, I would love some feedback on this.
OK....so after I did a Google on Ramps, here is a little info I found.
Ramps: Wild Leeks of Appalachia
As one of the first plants to emerge in the spring, ramps were traditionally consumed as the seasons first "greens." They were considered a tonic because they provided necessary vitamins and minerals following long winter months without access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Ramps are pleasant to eat and taste like spring onions with a strong garlic-like aroma. They are often prepared by frying in butter or animal fat with sliced potatoes or scrambled eggs. They are also used as an ingredient in other dishes such as soup, pancakes, and hamburgers. They can also be pickled or dried for use later in the year.

OK...now I know what they are...but how do they taste. If you have had the pleasure of eating Ramps, please give me your thoughts. Not sure how me being a Little Ga Peach....how I missed this one!
OK everybody...I do have a update on these special ramps...
I was told (by someone who has actually ate them) that they taste pretty good but the smell stays with you for several days, so if you ever do decide to eat any, be prepared for people to stay away from you for a few days.
I still would love to hear from anyone else!
Thanks
Very interesting. I have never heard of a ramp either. Look like green onions, though. I'd defintely give them a try.
